For each year of JROTC you take, you get one rank up to E3. You also start off with a better base of knowledge for military environments.

As for college, JROTC will allow you start at the 3rd year (enroling as a junior in college) of ROTC if you already have college or an associates degree. I did this. I got an associates from a community college and then went to a 4 year university as junior.

JROTC will help with listing activites for the ROTC scholarship or academy appointment applications. It does help quite a bit with them. Expecially if you can put down leadership positions from JROTC. Other activities will help also... sports, student council, Boy Scouts (expecially Eagle Scout)... etc.
