Blood worms, brine shrimp and Ghost Shrimp all work well, but should be used as a treat (once or twice a week). This will give your Betta more protein and bring out his coloration more.

Blood worms, and dried shrimp, too...I have a betta fish as well. They're so beautiful, aren't they? Maybe you weren't feeding your other one enough...I'm not sure. I hope this helps; though, and that this fish survives! And I'm sorry about your last 6 fish. Well try my suggestions.
I hope this helps! =D

Tons of things actually. In nature bettas eat bugs. Small soft bodied bugs. They will gladly eat anything like that in your tank at home as well. Bloodworms, brine shrimp, mosquito larvae, flies, maggots, fruit flies, mealbug larvae... anything like that is a good food for a betta.

If you go to Walmart and ask them where thier beta food is they actually have instead of pellets they have flakes. When we had beta fish we noticed that ours didn't do well on the pellets either, but when we switched to the flakes they did really well and thier colors got really bright.
