I mean my friend just told me on sunday that as most people are myopia and they do wear glasses, what will happen during war time when their glasses were crushed etc. Wouldn't they be render ineffective? esp. the standard full pack does not cover a standby pair of glasses.

They would tell these soldiers to bring extra pair of glasses. The military also does have lasik surgery available to them at no cost on a first come first serve system. Depending on their MOS will depend on their priority also. There are contact lenses for people with myopia, and if they were to get them it would be recommended that they get enough of them to last for the deployment. Instead of a 6 month supply they should bring a 1 year supply of them. They are allowed to get care packages and it wouldn't be a bad idea to have family send the supplies necessary to maintain contact lenses in the care package.

To think any war can be carried out without that happening is silly/stupid. Fighting out of uniform, like some others have said, is a Special Forces tactic used to infiltrate countries before a full-blown conflict occurs. Desecrating Enemy Bodies is actually done a LOT more by the enemies that the US has fought, particularly the terrorists of today. Torture is a relative term and there's never been a war that somebody wasn't tortured in. Killing prisoners was thrown in there by Tarantino for shock value and clearly it worked or you wouldn't be asking these questions. And apparently you missed the part where it was a FICTIONAL story not based on any real operation or event in World War 2. Additionally, you must take into account that up until the success of the Normandy Invasion, the allied powers were losing the war and were willing to take desperate measures to win at any cost even if it meant putting soldiers in civilian clothes to get behind the lines. And as soon as a weapon such as an AK47 has been removed from the ground near a corpse of an insurgent, he's suddenly looked at as a civilian casualty by the press since he now lacks a weapon, so maybe your sources should stop the **** now and then trying to make the troops look a million times worse than they are. While I agree with you that Tarantino is over the top and pretty much a nut, I strongly disagree with your evaluation of the current situation and that of the modern media.

The US Military issues these great, durable glasses. Hard to scratch, crush or otherwise break. They aren't particularly designed to be cosmetically pleasing, mind you.

In the Australian Army, we have to bring our own eye wear. Not the most practical solution, but at least we can wear what suits us. In the field, I typically bring my own glasses and pack some disposable contact lenses in my spare socks in case something horrible were to happen.

Laser eye surgery is often used to treat soldiers, though the hefty price usually sees it only guaranteed for exceptional cases.

Many people in the military wear glasses. The lenses are plastic. I was in the Army for three years and never had a problem.

You're issued two pair of glasses plus inserts for your gas mask.
