Nervous about college?

Question

I start classes tomorrow, Im a transfer student and I live in an apartment and I still don't know any students. Im worried that everyone will already have friends and not want to really make new ones.

What should I do to make friends and not seem like a freak! haha

I know a lot of my students have actually made friends working on group projects together, but that can take a while. You might try to attend meetings of some organizations which sound like they might be interesting to you, and give yourself some time to hang out on campus, rather than just going to class and leaving immediately when you are done. I realize that not all schools are the same, but the students at my university seem to really want to help others fit in. It is especially those who already have plenty of friends who seem most eager to help others fit in. I hope it goes wonderfully for you.

I know the feeling...I started graduate school two summers ago, but then had to drop out for a year, so when I came back last fall, I only knew one person. What I did was just introduce myself to the people sitting around me and talk to them some. I made friends with the people in my groups for projects and met their friends and pretty soon I had lots of friends. Try getting involved in some campus activities that you enjoy...you'll automatically have something in common with the people you meet in those activities. Don't worry, it will be easier than you think. Hope this helps and good luck at your new school!

Aside from joining activites, try sitting with new people at meals if you eat on campus, talk to people sitting near you in class (even if it's just to complain about the teacher!), and invite these new people to your apartment.
