The answer used to be yes.

So, I had to make some calls to see what the present case is, and every team I called said yes, the first few practices are open to all Canadian born eligible players. It is up to the player to contact the teams (usually in June, some teams said July) to arrange the tryout ahead of time. You can't show up unannounced.

This is my first season playin in the OHL. I was lucky enough to be selected to play. I honestly dont know for sure if you can just go and try out for a team. Everyone I know has been selected to play by their teams(pretty much invited). This isnt midget hockey where pretty much everyone who tries out make the team. Good luck to you.

If you haven't been drafted, then you have to be invited. I have had several friends play in the OHL, as well as my father and cousin. Never heard of walk-ons before, but I suppose it is possible. Highly unlikely though.

See my answer to your later question. Lots of Junior A teams hold open tryouts. Also most have "B" or tier 2 affiliates. Get noticed.

If they do, try out for the Saginaw Spirit - the official hockey team of Stephen Colbert.

they may on a team-by-team basis but you'd be a huge longshot if you weren't invited or recruited and you've definitely missed them for this season the prospect camps were earlier this summer
