It's not an American, not even a person .It's all the animals we first put up in space to test the conditions up there. Without them we wouldn't be up there.But if you want a person it's C. McCallough-our dearly departed teacher who died with the Challenger.Then Sally Rand and E. Jameson. All the females who made it possible for us women and civilizians to do the job.
