Well, it seems that a couple of others have already answered this question quite correctly but to set the record straight.....

Semen/ejaculate has absolutely no affect whatsoever on inducing premature labor. If very close to one's due date the activity of sexual intercourse does have a remote chance to help induce labor if it was just hours or days away anyway. It will NOT induce premature labor, so there are no worries.

The real concern is to ensure that your man is relatively gentle to keep you comfortable and so that you can enjoy the sexual play.

Let's just say that there's a Dr. in my household, so I know this to be true.

Cheers!

Im 35 weeks pregnant and have continued having sex since I found out I was pregnant. The third trimester was probably when we have done it the most since there is a chemical in sperm that helps soften the cervix. Im already 3cm dialated and 70% effaced and havent felt one 'ounce of pain'. If it is uncomfortable do stop. There were many of times where Id start to cramp up and we'd stop. My boyfriend was very understanding. So I wouldnt worry to much about it if I was you. If you are too concerned just ask your doctor.

You will not go into labor because of the ejaculate but sex at the end of the pregnancy can send you into labor early. I read that it is the orgasm (yours) and any nipple stimulation that actually helps to start labor early. My friend and I believe it we were both two and a half weeks early.

the males ejaculate contains a hormone in it that helps soften your cervix, or make you dialate. And some times an orgasim could be enough to set off contractions, or if there is any nipple stimulation during sex it could cause you to have contractions too. thats why when some women are close to their due date they try to have sex alot so they can get the ball rolling. i hope i helped. Im so afraid to go into labor early that ive been making excuses not to have sex lately :(

Supposedly having sex can be a good way to trigger labor if you are towards the end of your pregnancy. But many would say that if your body isn't ready then it isn't going to happen. In a normal, healthy pregnancy sex is find anytime unless your water has broken.

yea having sex while you're almost ready to have you're baby can send you into labor. It doesnt hurt the baby and doctors say have sex walk around and do all that if u want to be in labor its the natural way of getting like that

All I know is that it worked for me. I have two daughters and in both cases, when I was close to my due date, I started getting a feeling like I was about to explode, but nothing happened. It was like something inside of me was telling me I was ready. When I got that feeling I had sex with my husband and sure thing next morning I was in labor. In both cases I was in labor for 3 hours. Not that this will be the case for everyone, you know. It's always best to consult a doctor.

If that was true, I guess I would have gone into pre-labor more times than I could have counted, and considering I never did, I would guess it is more of an old wives tail than reality. Actually had sex within a week of when I delivered.

It helps to soften the cervix... but affects all women differently. Doctors do not tell you not to have sex unless you are in a high risk pregnancy, my philosophy is if they are not worried about it neither am I. I am 34 weeks and if that will get this little bugger here a little quicker I am all for it.

The semen does has an effect, but it's not enough to send you into labor. If it was, you wouldn't be allowed to have sex at all. Many women try having sex to send them into labor and for most it doesn't work. My doctor told me not to have sex in the last month since you are starting to dialate and semen carries bacteria into the uterus, and when your water breaks it can cause an infection.
