And when and why did our elected officials stop wearing wigs? I bet the Whig Party probably had the best ones.

The Whig party disbanded in 1856, Abraham Lincoln was the last presidential candidate they put up. The closest we have today would be the Constitution Party followed by the Republicans
I know what you're thinking, the Whig party was great, it helped found America and had such notable leaders such as Henry Clay, William Henry Harrison, and John Quincy Adams, but you can't revive the whig party

In the United States, the Whig Party ceased to exist after the 1856 election. Most northern Whigs joined the Republican Party, and most Southern Whigs became Democrats.

From my understanding, the Whig and Torry parties were leftover from colonial English politics. Then eventually the Whigs became the Republican party, and the Torries became the Democracts. The same dynamic still exists between the two as in the colonial days.

No, the Whig Party hasn't existed for a very long time. It was disbanded in 1856.
