I want to act really badly but I do not have that much experiance. I have done school plays and everyting but I want to get more serious about it. What do I need to know going into this industry and what are key traits to being a good actor? Thanks.

You need an education and experience.

Take acting classes, audition for community theatre, and if you can, learn about technical theatre. Knowing about all aspects of the theatre helps your acting a great deal. It did for me. It also made me respect the techies a lot more than before. Also remember:

Be easy going, courteous and a PROFESSIONAL. don't mess around so much. It will make your directors respect you and recommend you to other people in the business.

The above gave you key traits to succeed as an actor. The key traits of a good actor are listed in David Mamet's True and False, Franklin's Rehearsal or in my book The Tao of Acting. Basically, you need to be a very nice person, but there are so many behaviour habits that good actors have that I cannot list them here. Obviously, to be persistent. Do not give up. Do not let rejection get you down.

You need to be able to find calls for jobs and go and do it. You need your pictures, your scripts, and knowledge that you can get by going to a good acting school.

(If you have already tried that, then find a job that pays the rent and get out and audition.)
