I'm not sure why they say to sleep on your left side, but I was told the same thing. The next best is your right side, then your back & the worst is your tummy. I'll tell you, I've been a stomach sleeper since I was a baby. Thru my entire pregnancy I'd fall asleep on my side & wake up on my tummy. I mean right up until the end & it never caused my baby or me any problems so I wouldn't really worry too much about it. Can I recommend one thing? Get pillows, lots of them, but in particular get a maternity or body pillow. Bed, Bath & Beyond has one for $20. It was my saving grace!! Towards the end, the only way I could lay down while I was awake was to lay on my side with the body pillow between my ankles & knees, then tucked under my belly to support it & then hugging the top end of it. (of course, I still ended up on my belly!! LOL)
Hope this helps & best of luck!!

I was a tummy sleeper too, until my breasts got so tender I had to sleep a different way. Midwife recommended at about when I was 4 months, (i think?) sleeping on your left side for better blood flow to the baby and also takes pressure off of your liver. So since then I have been a left side sleeper and use a pillow between my legs. There is a way for you to sleep on your tummy all the way through 9 months though! In my birth class, the doula showed us a way to sleep on your tummy. You get an adult sized swim ring and fill it like 85% full of air and lay with your tummy in it! It doesn't harm the baby because you are not squishing him/her. It was actually quite comfortable and takes pressure off your back once you start getting 8-9mos along. You can get one at target or walmart in the pool section for around like $6? I know it sounds kinda silly and your man might not have that much room on the bed, but hey it works if you are a devoted tummy sleeper! :-) Give it a try!

You can sleep on your stomach until it is no longer comfortable for you to do so. Your baby is well protected by the amniotic sac. As far as sleeping on your left side, when I was pregnant the doctor told me that sleeping on the left side helped food to digest more easily so there would be less heartburn. Never really changed anything for me as I didn't have heartburn anyway, but if you get heartburn as you get bigger, give it a try. Sleeping on your right side won't affect the baby either. Good luck and Congratulations!!!

The baby gets more oxygen if you sleep on your left side. But it does not matter what side you sleep on. I cannot not sleep on just one side the whole night. Sleeping on your belly is going to get hard when that baby bump starts to grow. imagine trying to balance on a watermelon to sleep. When sleeping on your side, you will want a body pillow. This will hemp you sleep better. You can get a cheap one at Wal-Mart. You can also get a Snoogle (at Babies R Us) which costs $50. Is is a curve pillow that helps with sleeping during pregnancy. I have one and love it. I sleep with that on top of my regular pillow (for my head). I have been sleeping in odd positions as I have gotten farther along. Do not sleep on your back!!!

when i was pregnant i slept on my stomach until i was just starting to show by that point i couldn't no more but i couldn't sleep any other way so i improvised.i would kinda lay on my side and bring one of my legs up kinda like curling in a ball but not so close to you.so you end up half on your side half on your stomach so you can get comfy but not putting pressure on your stomach cause your leg braces you.i went thru 3 pregnancies this way and still now sleep that way to this day.as for lying on your left side it is supposed to allow more blood flow thru your body and to the baby.it wont hurt you or the baby by lying any other way but that is just the dr's recommendation.good luck to you and i hope you and your baby are healthy.

I slept on my stomach till it was completely uncomfortable. I tried sleeping on my left side, but I never stayed that way. I has something to do with blood flow. I don't think it is that serious. I have 2 healthy girls.

You can sleep on your stomach as long as you feel comfortable. They say the left side is best because it's better circulation for you and baby. But I sleep on whatever position I feel better...

Just sleep on your stomache until it gets uncomfortable. I also am a stomache sleeper. Just make sure you try to train yourself to sleep on your side. Like start out on your side when you fall asleep, if you go to your stomache.... soo....
It will make it a little easier for when you can't sleep on your stomache. And trust me you'll know when you can't sleep on your stomache.

CONGRADULATIONS MOMMY!!!! In addition to the other wonderful answers posted, do not forget to get yourself a pregnancy pillow and/or a body pillow. It will help you to be more comfortable as you get larger and you can use one end of the body pillow to place between your knees to help take the pressure off of your back.
