... as to why they or a family member can't serve in the military and fight the war they support so much.

(And before anyone asks, yes, I did serve in the military.)

Let's go over some of my favorites;

My war supporting skills are needed here at home.

I already bought a yellow ribbon magnet for my fridge and yellow ribbon bumper sticker for my car. How much more can one man do?

I already sent some chapstick to the troops.

I'm fighting the culture war.

I'm thinking about it. Really.

I'll join if there's another 9/11 type attack.

I'd join if the president came up to me and asked me.

My stepfather's brother-in-law's third cousin twice removed is already serving.

There's already enough people serving(cough, stop loss, cough).

I support my school sports team. Does that mean I should join them? (Because war and sports have so much in common.)

By the way this does not apply to ayone who tried to join, but couldn't get in. You actually attempted, so you're not a chickenhawk.

Justgetitright, was the explanation jot clear enough? You served. You are not a chickenhawk. This applies to people NOT like you. The ones who refuse to serve and have no intention of doing.

And ningis n, that's one I should have put on the list. I suppose not a single one of the troops in Iraq had ANYTHING else going on in their lives before they were sent over there.

Liberals have never supported the war so they don't have to make excuses. Quit trying to reverse the situation. America knows it is the CON's that support the war without fighting in it.

And the CON excuse has been

This one is the best - or should I say the worst excuse they use.

"It's better to have our troops dying in Iraq's sectarian civil war than to have al-Qaida attacking us in America"

It doesn't make sense and its unAmerican

Well, it seems that you have already supplied all of the liberals excuses for them.
I served during the Vietnam war (1966 - 1969), while your parents were out protesting against it with Bill and Hillary Clinton. Now I am 59 years old, and the military will not take me unless I had some special skills such as the Psychiatrist that they called and ASKED him if he would return, this man was already retired and said that he would do so. In my case I would not be able to go due to health problems (though a road side bomb would fix all of that) that could put my unit in danger.

All of you liberals say that you love America, why don't you enlist and prove it, aren't you willing to sacrifice your life so that there are no more terrorist attacks.

Let me guess, you have a hypocritical point of view, you don't what to be attacked but you don't want to help in seeing that we aren't attacked.

During the Vietnam war, many of my friends paid the ultimate price so that your parents had the RIGHTS to demonstrate against the war and the soldiers that were fighting the war.

You say you served in the military, when during peace time? and at what capacity a clerk, I'll bet they didn't ask and you wouldn't tell

In the US we have an all-volunteer military. It has been working for more than 30 years. I would not want to fix what is not broken. Volunteers come from all walks of life. That is as it should be.
I am a volunteer vet, college graduate, retiree. If people want to serve in the military, that is good. If people don't want to serve, no matter the reason, that is OK with me. In the US we have the freedom to choose.

Why do you assume that everyone that supports our involvement in Iraq is the right age to serve. I served in the 60's. Do I need to reenlist again as a retired disabled veteran to satisfy you?

How about... I just do not believe in this Bush made war... when I fight it will not be for revenge for daddy or oil for the big companies.

Anyone thinking Iraq was anything else is stupid.

Afghanistan.. different story.. I would be happy to fight there and go after El Quaida.. but apparently Bush made different arrangements with the bin Ladin family.. and it did not include catching or even going after them.

I like the usual excuse for everything "Clinton did it."
I think is funny bcuz they usually say that after saying Clinton was the worst President. So, what exactly would that makes them? The worst of the worst?

I have a job and family responsibilities here and can't just drop everything to go over there...and by the way, we have professional soldiers already trained to do that.

"Because if I perform my duties a little too well, Bush will have me in the brig."

Wait, that's a truism.
