You can't use a pad. They will just soak up pool water and leak all over the place. Gross. Your period does not stop when you are in the water, either. Don't believe anyone who tells you this. It is really simple: no tampon, no pool.

Check out this site. It breaks down swimming on your period: http://www.beinggirl.com/en_US/pages/questiondetail.jsp?ContentId=ASK270

A pad WON'T work. It will soak up water the minute you jump in and then it won't be able to collect your blood. The inner lining could also float out of the pad into the pool. DO NOT WEAR A PAD IN THE WATER.

If you are going swimming you HAVE to wear a tampon. Water does not stop a period. (don't believe anyone who tells you that. The water just washes away the blood--into the pool so that everyone can see it) If you insert it wrong, you just remove it and try again.

Each box of tampons comes with a little sheet of instructions and if you do put it in wrong you will know. It's easy enough though. As far as wearing a pad under a bathing suit, it will swell up like a diaper. I would think it would be very uncomfortable. If you are nervous about tampons, try talking to your mother or another woman that you feel comfortable with. Your doctor and public health nurses can also give you some tips.

Just use a tampon, don't worry, there's nowhere else it can go!

I used my first tampon around your age too. Don't worry just practice when your flow is in the middle and make sure you're using the smallest kind.
Good Luck

ps DO NOT listen to "poet gurl"
You can wear a tampon when ever you feel ready. You DO NOT have to be over 15.

Again, good luck

Wearing a pad will not work..First you will be able to see it and second it will puff up like a baby's diaper getting wet. Don't be scared of the tampon...once you start using them you will love it!! It is impossible to insert it wrong just read the directions. If you are relaxed it will not hurt. Try the tampon girl!

Honestly no, you can't wear a pad. It is made to absorb liquids, and it would end up full when you got out. You would appear to be wearing a diaper. Also, it might float out of your suit.
Tampons really are not that bad. Your period will stop in water, so all it's doing is protecting from random leaks and when you come out of the water. They are easy to put in. Just do what it says on the label. If you really hate the idea, don't swim when you have your period.

Try the tampons, they have different sizes, try the slimfits, and it's a little uncomfortable inserting them at first, but after a while, you get the hang of it, and it's easy. As you get older, you'll be glad that there are tampons around, believe me! But whatever you do, don't wear a pad in the pool. :) good luck!

You can use a tampon the first day of your first period.

Your period DOES NOT STOP in water. DO not believe anyone who says that. It gets dispersed into the water and only LOOKS like it stopped, but it hasn't.

And do NOT wear a pad in the pool, it will only end up humiliating yourself when it falls out of your swimsuit.

well...i know you hate tampons, and i've been there too! believe me, i was mortified to try to use a tampon for the first time! but, i asked around and it was just a matter of trying it. you don't know if you will like them until you try them. you can't put it in wrong. it can only go one way! =) and if it hurts when you put it in try a slim tampon to better fit your body. you will know if you have it in right. and just so you know...they put little instructions in every box of tampons. so just try it and see if it is all that bad...and if you still don't like them, well...as far as swimming goes i really don't know what else to tell ya to use. hmm...never really had to think about that one...i hope you try and everything works out! have a great day! =)
