Definitely don't rub their noses in the poop - that's bad advice that won't help at all.
After you wash or change the pillows out, you might try this stuff called Feliway - you can get it as a spray. It's supposed to mimic cat's pheromones so that they associate with it differently. But, I do agree that they're sending you a message - hope you figure it out!

There must have been some kind of scent in the bed or pillows that attracted them, so you need to sanitize the bed , throw away those pillows and buy new ones, also make sure that you are cleaning out the litter boxes daily, also you only have 2 cats so you don't really need but one litter box - keep it in the bathroom and leave the bathroom door open so they always have access, start shutting the bedroom doors so that they can't get in, even at night.
These tips should help stop them from doing it anymore.

A drastic measure is to use a spare plastic shower curtain over the top of the bed, or a plastic table cloth, when you're gone.
The boxes are in the bedroom, which could be confusing them that anywhere in the bedroom is ok to go potty. Our pillows have a strong scent to them from our shampoo and anything else that's onour hair, so they find the smelliest part of the bed (the top part) and 'go' there. They think it's ok.
Move all the boxes to the bathroom - they should be in one room unless you have a handicapped cat in the bunch who can't get to one area---and keep them as clean as possible. Sometimes if they think the bottom smells too bad they won't use a box.
Make sure you replace the pillows and wash everything so nothing smells like poop.

I had this problem after I changed the cat box to a hooded one. I couldn't figure it and tried everything to make them stop; clean litter, different brand, more time playing and so on. I then took the lid off the cat box and have not seen any accidents in 2+ months!!! =)

If you are cleaning the litter pans on a regular basis, I would suggest switching litters. Sometimes scented litter can be enough to deter the cat from going where he's supposed to. Get unscented litter and make sure you scoop often. If you have open litter pans, try one with a cover. If you already have the covered type, take the cover off and see if that makes a difference.
If they continue, you will have to ban them from your bedroom.

U need to take the littler boxes out of the bedroom and teach them where to poop. Keep only 1 litter box so they only get used to 1 spot.
As for the pooping on the pillows: did u try keeping them out of ur room at night till u can train them.
good luck..

When it comes to cat behavior, its simple. Cats may urinate out of the box because a.) mark territory or b.) because there is a medical problem causing pain.
But deficating outside the box is usually ment as a message.
The place is very specific. Usually associated to one person.
Very personal area's or items. Clothing, shoes, favorite chair OR bed.
SO I would say you have changed something very significant in their lives.
Are they locked in the house, when they were let out before?
Did you change your schedule dramatically?
Has someone been added to the houshold? (person or pet)
You did something! Figure it out and fix it or compromise!
Until you do....you'll keep getting little stinky messages!

my cat of 9 years does this to the clean laundry in the basket. Pissed me off bad she has a litter box too. I dont know why they do this or how to stop it. Are they trying to mark us as theirs or what? When my cat does this I give her a bath cause it makes her as mad as me for having to rewash the laundry
