At least 6 weeks....better at 8

I know that some people say you can take them away as soon as they are weaned(usually eight weeks). However, I personally think they should stay with their mother and their litter for 10 weeks. The kittens benefit from their mothers milk and the social play with their litter mates. I gave a kitten away at eight weeks and the kittens were still so tiny, I felt so bad. It broke my heart to leave the kitty with his new home, even though he has a great home. I still have three of the kittens and I wished I would not have let two of them go so soon. Just my take.....are you going to get the momma spayed? Please do, if you don't mind me saying so. If you can't afford it, call a local shelter, sometimes they help people with funds for spaying. We have a spay clinic here and it is very cheap.
Good luck.

I have a cat that I took in that just had 5 kittens. I have had cats my entire life. At about 4 weeks old you need to start introducing wet cat food to get them used to having something besides theirs mother's milk. This will make them less needy for the mom cat. Continue to do this for a few weeks then start adding hard cat food absorbed in milk on the 6th and 7th week. By law you can wing the kittens from the mom cat at 8 weeks old. Please make sure you give then some sort of cat food that way they can eat properly when they are put in new homes. I hope this helped. :)

Contrary to popular belief, separating cats from their mother at 6 weeks and up is actually cruel to the kitten. it's better to do the separating at 13 or 12 weeks.

you should keep them with their mother a minimum of six weeks, i have seen them seperated at five weeks at the earliest. If your cat is litter box trained, the longer you leave the kittens with her, she'll box train them too, easier to sell or give away that way. good luck

Keep them together for at least 8 weeks please please. They can be separated at 6 weeks but they are just tiny and it is harder on them. Make sure they can eat real cat food without getting sick first. And if you want to give them milk, I would recommend the kind specially made for them. You can get it at a supermarket. It is easier for them to digest so they won't get diarrhea. Good luck!
