There are several really wonderful songs about cancer.
"Tough" by Craig Morgan

"Skin (Sara Beth)" by Rascal Flatts
http://music.yahoo.com/track/13255627
Sarabeth is scared to death
To hear what the doctor will say.
She hasn't been well
Since the day that she fell
And the bruises just won't go away.
So she sits and she waits with her mother and dad
And flips through an old magazine
Till the nurse with the smile
Stands at the door
And says will you please come with me
Sarabeth is scared to death
'Cause the doctor just told her the news
"Between the red cells and white
Something's not right
But we're gonna take care of you"
"Between the red cells and white/ Something's not right." Again, a kind of artful evasion of naming: Is it fearfulness or a way of heightening the dread?
Anyway, to make a rather long next verse short, the doctor says they've caught it in time, and they're going to use a newly approved method of chemo that should give her a six-in-10 chance of surviving.
This doesn't allay Sarabeth's concerns. She's got a prom date coming up and worries about the effects of chemo, because, as the chorus puts it:
Sarabeth closes her eyes
She dreams she's dancing
Around and around without any cares
And her very first love is holding her close
And the soft wind is blowing her hair
But that hair is about to suffer a fall:
Sarabeth is scared to death
As she sits holding her mom
Says it would be a mistake
For someone to take
A girl with no hair to the prom
For just this morning right there on her pillow
Was the cruelest of any surprise
And she cried when she gathered it all in her hands
The proof that she couldn't deny.
But after another chorus, now doubly heartbreaking, about that "soft, blowing hair," the song swiftly shifts to prom night:
It's a quarter to 7
That boy's at the door
Her daddy ushers him in
And when he takes off his cap
They all start to cry
'Cause this morning where his hair had been
Softly she touches just skin

My Mom was recently diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer. So I know how you feel, although I have not lost my Mother I am fighting hard to keep her here for as long as I can.
As for the songs, I am looking for some too...and those that responded really helped (THANK YOU!) You see, I am a dancer and in January of next year I will be directing and dancing in a show that will be a benefit toward cancer patients and families through the OSU James Cancer Center. It is going to be (I hope) and AMAZING and heart wrenching and feel good show that I hope earns a lot of money and a lot of press.
One song in particular that I have not read on your page is "I run for life" by Melissa Ethridge. It is about Breast Cancer. It's awesome! Check it out on radioblogclub.com And you can find other songs there as well! :o)
I am praying for you and I hope that this helps! (If anyone wants to know more information about my benefit please feel free to contact me, and PLEASE list more songs...they have been great so far!)

I think best songs would be christian songs. I know its hard im experiencing that too my huspand past away 3 yrs ago and we had a son that time i was 23 yrs old they say time heals all the pain i think thats not working for me or for you. Specially in your case she's your mother friendly advice just seek to the lord everytime that your feeling down just ask the lord to lessen all the pain that caused you their gone physically but the memories are still there, theres no way you cannot remember your mom each and every single day just look on the brighter side she doesnt feel any pain no need for doctors appt. or chemo or medication. God bless

I know neither of the songs Im suggesting actually mention cancer but for the 25 year old - Bridge over troubled water, Simon & Garfuncle, would let him know youre there for him. The 5 year old - something a bit more cheery - Three Little Birds - Bob Marley. Best wishes hun I know what youre going thro

i'm very sorry to hear about your mom. i lost mine to cancer 12 yrs ago. i have to ask, if you are having such a hard time coping with this, why listen to something sad that will remind you of how devastating this disease is?sad songs only make things worse and will delay your ability to move on with your life. get away from the stereo and out of the house. it's okay to think about your mom everyday. i still do. sure, i get sad sometimes and i cry but then, i realize that she'd hate it so i move on. find peace.
