This might cause **** ....but black people wonder why they get followed around in stores...I work as a manager in a retail clothing and accessories store and out of everyone who I knew stole from my store (A LOT!), only one person was white. And I've never experienced shoplifting from any other race. I'm wondering if this is the same in all other parts of the country.

what im saying is that I watch everyone, but the ones that are obviously stealing are almost always black. Im not saying that I follow only black people around my store.

I worked in retail for eight years here on the east coast and the first thing they taught us is that there is NO stereotypical shoplifter. They come in all shapes, sizes, ages, races and creeds. A GOOD retail employee wouldn't let something like the color of someone's skin be a precursor to whether or not they suspect that person is shoplifting, just like a cop wouldn't suspect someone committed a crime just because that person happened to be a person of color. Put aside your prejudices and pay attention to ALL suspicious shoppers like those who come in with empty bags but leave with huge filled bags, those who are wearing clothing out of season, ie. large jackets or pants, etc., those that seem to be paying closer attention to the employees in the store and to those around them than to what they're looking at in front of them. I could tell ya more, but then you'd be robbing me lol jk jk!! Good Luck!

There is no way to tell who will steal. However, last week several black women came into our store and stuffed things under their clothes. When the alarm went off, they cried "racism" and claimed they were being profiled. When the security tapes were reviewed, they were shown to be stealing. The clerks were afraid to further confront them when they cried racism, even tough the clerks themselves were black.

Crazy world!

Actually, most were middle class white girls on a dare (I worked at Mervyn's for nearly a year in the towels and bathware section)

It depends upon where you live. If the people who are homeless, poor and desperate happen to be black then I suppose you'll see more of them in trouble. In other neighborhoods it's going to vary.

I think you need to start looking beneath the skin.

Maybe you only catch the black people because those are the only ones you follow......
