Same type/brand of sticks.They work on a different computer - same motherboard. MSI K8T NEO-FSR
Two other sticks of 512mb ram installed also show only 256mb in system. Computer still runs, just slow.
There are three memory slots and I have tried inserting the sticks into the slots in different combinations singly and dually.
There are apparently no BIOS updates for this motherboard.
At a loss. ?????

What speed are they? DDR333 only 3 GB are acceptable, and if you use DDR400 only 2 GB are acceptable.

relies upon on your Board. ensure you probably did not get ECC ram in case your Mobo can't help it. the speed and the variety of Ram aren't any more the in elementary words element you need to guage. Are you particular that board can help 4Gb it is truly previous, and through that element for a customer computing device 4 Gb became a dream. i imagine the stikc would nicely be to massive and if the stick is largerer than the biggest supported DIMM or SIMM length than it gained't ensue.

Check your motherboard's FSB, the FSB limits how much RAM you can plug into your motherboard.

For example:

333Mhz = 2GB of RAM
444Mhz = 4GB of RAM
633Mhz = 8GB of RAM

The memory channel of your motherboard also affects the type of memory sticks you can use. If you are using a dual-channel motherboard, use dual channel memory sticks.

if u have used the find new hard ware wizard in control panel
and still doesn't show it, it cant be the correct ram all i can think of. i know some ddr ram can be mixed up easily

go through the BIOS on both computers carefully, and literally take pictures of all the options there and compare each setup side by side.
if they are identical, it's got to be a hardware issue with the board.
