I have a 95 Mustang and the rear calipers are the type that the piston needs to be screwed back in. The piston is too far out of the caliper and when I try to screw it back in, it's not 'catching'. Does it need to be pushed in a certain amount first? It's a new caliper (year old) and I'd hate to buy another new one. Any suggestions?

The best answer is a.... C clamp. I change the brakes on my car all the time and I use a C clamp for the caliper every time. But when your are done and ready to drive your car, be sure to PUMP the brake pedal (until it gets hard) before you start the car. Because what is going to happen is when you squeeze the piston back in you are building pressure in the break line and creating air pockets so by pumping the brake you are releasing those a air pockets.... Good Luck

A medium sized "C" Clamp should work BEST. it will return the piston with a proper force vector. The channel locks may work, but could introduce an odd angle to the piston and possibly damage it or unseat the piston ring/seal

Get a "c-clamp" that fits onto the caliper and the pistom, press it back on.

It will screw in after the piston is down.

Use a pair of channel lock pliers to squeeze the piston back in.
Don't pinch the rubber seal!!

6" C clamp.
Maybe it's already screwed in as far as it's going to and needs to be pushed back in?

are you using a specific brake tool or just a screwdriver, proper tools make it easier, and it gets easier with practice
