They are both soft but I would take Duncan.

It's really hard to say which one is better. They both have their teams developed around their strengths and weaknesses. In a one-on-one game I'd say Dirk would take Duncan because Tim isn't a great ball handler and can't defend on the perimeter nearly as well. Doesn't make him any less effective of a player in the scheme that the Spurs run - have you ever noticed that Duncan usually guards the other team's center unless the center is a scorer? Of course, the same can be said about Dirk.

Dirk has a complete game

He has great range and is one of the best free throw in the NBA. He is also a great 3-point shooters shooting over 40%

Duncan cant shoot a 3 to save his life and is almost as bad as Shaq at free throws and he is starting to get too old did u see in game one of the finals when duncan had the perfect pass for an alley oop and was wide open

That is why Dirk won the MVP
Even though Nash deserved it

Your question and your own pick is a little bit dumb (no mean to disrespect, but you don't know not thing about basketball or never play or something like that)

First, Dirk is better with his outside shot, that's for sure. But he is soft inside. Only strong presence in the paint bring championship (look back at history, they all about big men)

Duncan is the most unselfish guy in the league. He can pass, block, rebound better. Last time I check of "efficiency category) Duncan was rank very high, they use the currents stat to put it in 48 minute game he potentially average 35+ and 15+ rebound.

Have you see TD's nine shot blocks in a game vs the Suns. Take Dirk for your own and never win a championship.

one on one? you're probably right - dirk has an advantage in ballhandling and speed.
but if you had to pick one to build a team around you'd be foolish not to take tim duncan. He's a better defender (by far) and a superior post player. Tim Duncan is almost the definition of consistency. He runs the pick and roll almost to perfection and his help defense is astounding. Both are relatively "soft" players, but Dirk seems to an aggressive streak when it's a must-do situation. T-Dunc has never shown that shortcoming. I think Dirk has been the best regular season in the L now for at least three years - but Duncan is one of the best of all time.

Dirk is better around the 3 pt. line and just shooting, but Duncan is better because he his excellent in the post (where Dirk isn't that good at) and with his great defense. Duncan would beat Dirk.

Tim Duncan by far.Hes proven that you can be a superstar without being a show-off,although sadly, thats probaly why hes been so overlooked.LeBron can dunk on him until the cows come home, but at the end of the day,Duncan will be on the winning side.Oh,yes,Duncans got 3 championship rings, how many does Nowitzki have?

Dirk. he can light up from downtown, better free throw shooter, but average defender...Duncan is mr. fundamental, great bank shooter, free throw is his weakness and has limited range of jump shot. I'll take Dirk over Duncan....2007 MVP.

Well the bling explains it all for Duncan, but to be fair Nowitzki is way better with things that Timmy aint that good at.
Dirk D has gradually gotten better and will be a bigger threat once he practices he post game like he said he would but for right now Duncan got it on lock...
