The blogbaba always considered Teofilo Stevenson the greatest heavyweight to never win the world heavyweight championship, and most boxing experts would consider Stevenson the greatest Cuban boxer of all time, no small honor considering the greats that came from Cuba. Savon was a multiple gold medal winner, and a great Olympian in his own right, but he never had the legendary status of Stevenson. In my book Teofilo was the teacher and Savon the student.

If both met in their prime, Stevenson would have won. There is a legitimate argument to question weather people like Jack Johnson, Joe Louis or Mohammed Ali could have handled Teofilo Stevenson in his prime. No such argument is given any creditable consideration pairing Savon with the all time greats, but Teofilo Stevenson belongs right along side the best the heavyweight division ever produced.

Teofilo Stevenson. Stevenson is faster and smarter. He'll outpunch Savon.

In their prime Muhammed Ali would have beaten Stevenson; not easily. Stevenson had a terrific right hand and could take a punch, but was a standup boxer with few moves. Ali matched him in punching power and would out boxed him with his great moves.
