Yes some cats don't like to be handled. With your new kitten make sure that you give it lots of attention and love. Also handled it quite a bit but make sure that it's not to much.
When you get the new kitten don't introduce the cat to it straight away.
Put the kitten in separate room to start with with its food and kitty litter in there with it, for about a few days. introduce the cats slowly by feeding the cats of either side of a closed door. This way they will pick up each others scent and get used to the other being around. Once you have done this for a few days, open the door slightly with a door jam so that the door cannot be fully opened. This is so that the cats can see each other, without them being able to attack one another.
Once they are settled with each other, you should be fine to let them get fully accuinted.
Also introduce the kitten to the rest of the house slowly.

Depends on your cat breed and also it's personality. Some cats just don't like being fondles or held and etc. They tend to be individual in their personality types, much like a person who is introverted they like not to be touched. However, it's beneficial for your kitten to grow up and easily be handled so practicing to hold him/her properly is a must. Your new kitty may not be that way and may love to be held - most of those cast have laid back personalities. The ones who don't like to be held are a bit... lack of a better word - snobbish - rather than standoffish. It's likey the kitten won't pick up the older cat's bad habits. Since it's a kitten just ensure alot of physical affection. Don't get too clingy though.

Its normal. It has to do with the cat's personality. It could have bad experience with being picked up or it might just be in a bad mood and want some space. Either way, nothings wrong and you should be fine with a new kitten.

If your cat does this all the time, ie she's not hurt or scared about something, then it's just her way. It doesn't mean she doesn't want attention, it just means she doesn't like to be handled too much.
Some cats will come and sit next to you, like a friend. They just like sharing your space. Most cats love to get petted and scratched but hate it when you try to place them next to you or in your lap. They want to choose where to go. Cats will cuddle, but only when they want to. I have one that crawls into my lap on his own but will never let me put him there.
In short, like with a person, pay attention and see what she wants and try different things. She'll love the attention and you'll figure it out. And the new kitten will decide for itself what it likes. I also have one cat that loves to be picked up and hugged, even though he lives with 2 cats that hate it!

I have had several cats and many of them do not like to be picked up. In my experience they all just have different personalities and that is probably something you won't have control over. However, when you go to pick out your new kitten, try to see which one seems the most friendly and playful out of the bunch and maybe that one will be more likely to let you hold her.

Wait till she comes near you, and just put out you hand and let her sniff it. Then get in the habit of saying out loud "Kitty, I'm going to pick you up now." The book says that you should hold each cat once a day. Even if it's only for 10 seconds!! Good luck!! Just remember, every cat is so different,. Good luck! :)

Some cats simply don't like being picked up or held. And some, like my two, aren't 'holding kitties'. But they are Lap kitties. Which is pretty funny, considering that one of them is a 15 pound bruiser!
But if you want your new kitten to be a 'holding cat', get her used to good things happening when she lets you pick her up and hold her. This isn't guaranteed, but she will be less nervous.
Good luck!

Attitude. I have 11 cats. Some will cuddle and some want you to leave them the **** alone. Make sure when you get your kitten that you hold it a lot. That will not guarantee that it will let you hold it later, but it will be a good start.

It sounds like the cat is just ferrel (spelling?) and there isn't anything you can do about that. When you get a new kitten just make sure the cat is affectionate. Good luck!

If this is a fairly new cat, yes.
Some cats like to be alone at times. My cat at times loves cuddling but the next just sits by the window and meows when you approach. They are like sensitive people, one minute nice, the next stubborn. :)
