When a dose response curve shifts to the left, the drug becomes more or less likely to create unwanted side effects?

Please answer if you can or know. Reasons supporting your answer would be appreciated because I am not trying to find a guess, I am looking for the correct answer. Thanks. Help if you can. =)

It's been a couple of years since I had pharmacology but as I remember when the curve shifts to the left that means that there is fewer of the drug available. If less of the drug is available then there would be fewer side effect.

The dose response curve is a plot of the dosage (on the x-axis) and the response (on the y-axis). Typically, it takes an S-shaped curve.

"the dose response curve is shifted to the left" is fancy-pantsy pharmacologic way of saying that less of the drug is needed to produce an effect or side effects. If you think of the plot moved to the left some, by definition, you would need less dosage to get the same effect as the original curve, since dosage is on the x-axis.

Are you in medical school, nursing school or pharmacy school?

I have been coming in using yahoo services for about ten yrs now and I am still here. You cant take this to seriously. But this forum is a small slice of what exist out there in the real physical world and that is quite disturbing. Yes you are improving the quality of this forum by reporting. If someone is being disrespectful or just down right vulgar especially if it's on a continuous basis. Then they should be reported.God bless !

If the curve shifts to the left, it takes less drug to get the same effect.

So, if you take a normal dose of the drug, you get MORE effect, and, one would presume, more side effects as well.

(Side effects are not always dose-related, though)
