Look into EVeRY scholarship you can. I know you hate the loan idea, but consider not getting your degree because you were afraid to pay off student loans? You'd be making much less and be unhappy. Loans can be pushed off successfully until you can afford them. Don't let funding be an excuse not to persue your dream. I got a college degree with loans, working in the Student Union, Bartending, weird little scholarships, and a few more loans. And I couldn't be happier.

You need to start applying for scholarships now! Scholarship deadlines happen throughout the calendar year. If you qualify for a scholarship, apply for it no matter what. Have a few people proofread your application essay before submitting for clarity and grammar. I will include some free resources to locate scholarship money.

First, the college's financial aid office and website has a list of private scholarships offered from outside organizations and companies. Sometimes a college major's website will list scholarships, too.

Second, the public library has a book listing scholarships with some not even listed on the web.

Third, the high school guidance office has a list of local scholarships and state scholarships & grants. This can be done in the senior year.

Fourth, a campus work study job can help with money needed during the school year. The program is funded by the federal government. It will be a job on campus and most times can work to your availability schedule. There should be a box on the FAFSA form for it.

Fifth, states do offer grant and scholarships for students with excellent grades. Search Google.com and Yahoo.com for these grants and scholarships with your state's name.

Finally, I recommend joining several free membership scholarship search websites. There are scholarships for a variety of things including ethnicity, clubs, hobbies, and even wearing duct tape to the high school prom. Most are updated on a regular basis. Most offer a customized search based on information entered onto a form on the website.

Good luck!

Actually I would look into Dominican University. They have a great fashion program with a lot of exposure because it is in chicago. Also Dominican gives a slew of scholarhsip and additional grants automatically. They are even flexible with the time of application/addmission. They also have a scholarship calculator. so check it out!

Look at the family science/art options at regular universities. They cover design courses in those areas. Outside of scholarships and working I'm not sure what options are available to you.

ask the counselors at those colleges for info about scholarships. there are tons of scholarships you don't know about. DO NOT pay anyone for a list of scholarships, they are a rip off.
