There is no scientific basis to support in any way the idea that distant stars (some hundreds of light years away) have any influence on a person's life or personality.
The signs were determined over 2000 years ago. The precession of the equinoxes has changed which constellation the sun is actually in by one constellation (my "sign" is Gemini based on the date, but the sun was actually in Cancer at the time I was born).
So astrologers don't even keep up with the science behind the myths.
However, if your parents believe in astrology it can influence how they raise you and what they teach you, so it can have an indirect effect on your personality.

The zodiac is a group of 12 constellations through which the Sun, Moon, and planets pass; I believe in that. But I know of no evidence that the positions of these bodies relative to the zodiac constellations at the time of birth has any effect on human behaviour or characteristics. I can't see any mechanism by which this could work.

Haha interesting question.
I had basically this exact question yesterday in my astronomy class.
Astrology is considered a 'pseudoscience' which translates to 'false science'.
Astrology can't stand up in the face of scientific fact and it is borne more out of a need for us to have 'meaning' and 'understanding' in our lives than being based on science.
BTW, I'm a Taurus and my gf is a Virgo...we're a perfect match as far as astroligy is concerned. lol

Hi. The only rational explanation I can think of has more to do with local weather than stars and planets. Someone who spends the few months of their life in the cold (winter) may have a different outlook that one who develops in the warmth of summer.

I do not believe the position of the planets at the time of your birth can tell you what your nature or future is. There is just no connection at all.

Astrology is medieval pseudoscience. Giant spheres of rock and incandescent gas millions of miles away have no bearing on our fates.
