My Wife will be coming home from open heart surgery this week. I want to feed her healing foods. I don't need a list of heart healthy foods, but ones that will make her breast bone and incision heal better and faster

Check with her doctor...your medical group or hospital should have someone to guide you. A basic healing diet is rich in omega 3's (Fish, etc.), 9 - 13 servings of fruits and veggies, lean meat, high fiber carbs, and dairy. All the antioxidants mentioned by another here are important. She needs calories to heal. If she doesn't feel much like eating try making smoothies with fresh fruits, yogurt, Whey powder, a little ground flax and ice cubes. Add ground flax (in small quantities) to soups, salads, etc. Add turmeric to rice and vegetables. Citrus peel and citrus added to dark green veggies make them more easily absorbed. Cinnamon will keep her blood sugar levels more even.

All my best to your wife for a speedy recovery. Having you at her side she is already ahead of the game.

I don't claim to be an expert, but I have seen a few things.

The most important thing is to make sure it's food she can actually eat. She will probably want cranberry juice because that's loaded with a lot of good vitamins, and because studies have shown that it can actually transform e.coli in such a way that it's no longer dangerous. When my husband's stomach acts up, or if I get ill, I fix tea with lemon and honey for colds, or with ginger for headaches and stomach problems.

You may want to get her soup, especially chicken soup. Or if you have a crock pot, make some.

I suggest you consult the doctor for further advice.

Good luck to you and the lady!

Try these:

Green tea contain many antioxidant chemicals known as polyphenols.
One of them called EGCG has 20 times the radical quenching effect of Vitamin E, and 500 times the effect of vitamin C.

Garlic, Onion
Garlic and onions contains chemicals: (allyl sulfides) which help limit the production of cancer causing chemicals.

Tomato contain antioxidants "lycopene"

Soy (best products are miso, tamari and shoyu):
Soy products contain chemicals called "isoflavones" which act as weak estrogens and leave less room for strong ones. Estrogen promotes fast growth of breast cells in women.

Antioxidants are able to stop free radical chain reactions.

Antioxidants :
polyphenols in green tea
lycopene in tomatoes
Antioxidants are quenching free radicals !
Cox-2 Inhibitors such as "reservatol" in red grapes and "curcumin" in Turmeric suppress tumor's production of growth factors. It may inhibit blood vessel growth in tumors. Tumor without blood vessel can not grow.

Broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage ... have "sulforaphane" , which boost production of Phase II Enzymes.
Phase II Enzymes remove carcinogens from cells.

There are hundreds of natural chemicals that help our body function.
