Once in the near vicinity of Mars, then what? Visualize being inside of a lead barrel and coming into the Martian surface at about 25,000 Miles Per Hour. Frankly, I would not like to watch that... I think there would be one big "KA-POW" when you hit.

I suppose you could - but without decent engines it could take several years to get to Mars.
Assuming you could hibernate with 100% efficiency for that time (needing no water, food, or oxygen for years), you would then have the problem of landing. A barrel would make a big crater when it hits.
And if its just you, your suit, and the barrel - what would you do about surviving on Mars assuming you could get there? You'd need life support, water, food, oxygen, temperature control, radiation shielding, etc. The barrel wouldn't be enough.

First of all, during Hibernation you will use water and food in the form of fat. How would you land on Mars or enter proper orbit. Too many unanswered questions for a very difficult and formidable operation.

That would be like putting yourself into a barrel at Detroit and hoping to float to London. I'd rather take Air Lingus.

If your body is strong enough to withstand the rigors of warp travel, just ascend into the warp hole and you'll be at Mars in about a second. It's really not that far.

Well what do you think a spacecraft is? Although we lack the luxury of hibernation so require food and water. And oxygen. And something to live in and do once you get there.

what about your oxygen supply.................? it takes a space craft or satellite 8 months to get to Mars. How would bring enough oxygen to last MUCH longer than that in a barrel, plus you would be sleeping, so you would probably die and not even know it.
