What criteria do you use to decide which charity to support?

Most charities cover a wide range of activities. Is it possible to specify which areas I'd like my donation to fund?

First consider what is important to you. Then get involve in that issue. For example, if it's more important to you that all single parents get childcare than it is for gang violence to stop, then donate to organizations who get involve in family. No matter what you decide, I'm sure your contribution will help in some way.

I prefer donating to charities where I know that all or as much as possible of the money is used to actually help someone and not just used on advertising costs or high salaries for the boss or something (did you for example know what an insane amount of money the boss of the American Red Cross accepts yearly???).

Then I try to support the most important causes rather than less important causes (for example I'd rather donate money to provide water for people in Africa than support the local sport team). And then I care a bit more about certain causes than about others.

That's my criteria.

Many charities offer the possibility to specify what you want your charity used for, within the range of activities they are involved in.

Money is a good thing to give but I like to give: time. I cannot control exactly where my money goes, but I can control my own time and how I use it. I also receive a grand reward when I have helped someone. If you are going to give money, choose a charity that strikes a cord in your heart. You have to do some research....google it....

I go for chairities in my town that i know of that help local folk who have less than i, that need that little extra to keep going. And i put in items to the local church ,the UU,who give to any person in need regardless of race creed color, religion. That unforturnately in my town..is a thing ive noticed. We asked to give donations to a certain church,,except when that certain church heard we were of pagen belief they WOULDNT TAKE OUR DONATIONS.THAT WAS SAD.Faith has no distinction in helping...thus i help in the best place i can.

There is no general criteria, it is based on what you personally care about, what touches your heart and you want to help.
