I arrived in U.S over a year ago on a Fiance visa , have recently been approved for my permenant resident card . However my husband is becoming more and more abusive towards me and i really just want to go home and start over. The only reason i came to U.S is because my husband was studing at time of decision.
I cannot work , and as such have no money and all i want to do is get away and go home now.
Can i ask government to deport me?

I havent worked because i only just got my green card and am looking for employment. Have to wait for my son to start kindergarten as i have no child care and we cannot afford it. My husband was unemployed for four months and as a result we have many debts. There is not enough money in his account for me to buy airtickets.
My husband does not beat me but he is verbally and mentally abusive. I can come and go as i need to .

You cannot be deported if you have your Perm. Residency, but I would recommend seeking assistance from a local Women's refuge. They will help you get on your feet and obtain employment to earn money, and then you would be able to afford to return to your country.

No offense intended, but if you have a permanent resident card, why can't you work? If you are disabled, you might be eligible for public assistance. It might take a while, but even working part time, you could scrape together enough money for transport back to your home country.

If your husband is physically abusive (or threatening), there are resources available to you. Practically everywhere, there are charitable organizations that protect and assist abused spouses. With some legal help, you could divorce your husband, during which proceedings you might get you enough money to go home.

As a married woman, you *should* be on your husband's bank accounts and/or credit cards. Presumably he doesn't confine you to the house, and he needs you to have access to funds to go to the grocery store and whatnot. Point being, those accounts are "your" money, too (even if your husband is the only wage earner), which provides you with means. You could book an international flight and be GONE before his next bank statement came out.

If you don't have access to "your" money, and if you are really, really desperate, you could apply for credit cards of your own (although it would probably be illegal to forge your husband's name on the application), buy a plane ticket, and leave the country.

However, there is no reason why you couldn't ASK to be deported. What's the worst that could happen? They say "no"? So call the Immigration & Naturalization Service. They might require you to give up your permanent resident status (or they might revoke it just for you asking). Either way, you get what you want: a "back door" to deportation.

You can do that, but you have to live with a black mark on your record for the rest of your life. Deportation might even decrease your chance of ever being able to return to the US, or maybe any other country. All the authorities need to do is check your records & see that you have tried something like this before.

If you feel trapped, the best thing you should do is seek help within the US. If your husband is abusing you, then HE is the problem. Go to a shelter and get some help. Try to work it out. Maybe go to a government-runned shelter that can prolong your PR status even though you might be divorcing your husband. Then you can use that as a stepping stone, find a job or relocate somewhere else or find other options.

There is no reason why you should ruin your reputation because of the wrong man. You have the internet, do your research and seek the help you need. I wish you all the best! :)

call or visit the French embassy or consulate. don't you have some friends or relatives in France that could buy you a ticket? you may also want to contact the immigration service in case this guy tries to sponsor another person. they may be able to make arrangements with the French consulate to get you back. Just get away. go to a woman's shelter or salvation army.
since you have the green card, get some sort of job, save up for a plane ticket and leave. you can turn in your green card abroad.

After a lot of research, I could only gather you are from South Africa. Good. Call 911 in the U.S. and explain your position on to the operator and she will send some one to your house to check. You should also tell them that you are scared of your life and you have no money, etc. I am sure you can talk in English and that should do the trick. Tell them your problem and with the help of your consulate they will get you a valid ticket to go back to South Africa. Good luck. For more information you can contact me on "tnkumar1@hotmail.com". Good luck. By the way, you can also send an e-mail to local immigration authorities.

If you have your green card, you are legally allowed to work. You can seek the help of social services to escape your abusive husband. You do not need to go home to start over. Get rid of your husband and you can start over - here. Make a life for yourself. Remember, it is not how many times we fall, but how many times we get up. Do not lose hope.**

Quit being a baby. If you got your green card from your husband, then you have had a work permit for a while. Get off your lazy butt and get to work like the millions of single mothers who leave abusive husbands every day. At least you don't have to worry about him hunting you down and killing you, like many women. Get a freaking job and be responsible for your life. Why the hell did you come to this country if you wanted to be a "helpless" woman. You can do that anywhere else.

This would not be good for your immigration record. So instead of asking for deportation, contact your country's embassy for help. They should be able to give you the right procedure to follow to go home. I am sorry it did not work out with your husband and i wish you good luck!

I think this is about the most interesting question I've ever seen. Most important, though, is that you get out of your situation - no one should have to endure abuse in any form. The county you live in may have a social services unit, they should be able to help you. If nothing else, they can help you to get away from this jerk until you get the rest sorted out.
Good luck... I hope it all works out for you.
