Some of the stuff I've seen at restaurants leaves me amazed that I still eat out (I used to work as a waitress).
There were nights that everything that fell off the plate fell 'on a napkin'
The pasta specials that were made of a weeks worth of leftovers
(And it's a documented fact that you ingest more bacteria from the ice in the ice machine than if you'd gone into the bathroom and licked the toilet seats)
Oh, and the waitress that had food poisoning and kept throwing up in the kitchen bathroom. Oh wait, that was me. (Yes I washed my hands. No I couldn't get the night off because we were booked solid). So next time your server seems to be pale and in an awful hurry to get away from the table . . . .
And this was at a fancy white tablecloth restaurant.

The question is...do you get a new job? because if you work at a restaurant, you're going to eat there.
I worked in food service for a long time, and after a while, the people you work with become like family and you're not so touchy about their "germs". The way you pose your question makes it sound revolting. I would avoid that batch of potatoes and keep an eye on him. If I felt the food was too gross because of him, I'd quit. I'd quit because I would never give up eating at my job and never work in an establishment that I have conflicts in. (it's hell)

As uncomfortable as it may be, something should be said to the chef, his boss, whomever. "Nice" restaurants have reputations to uphold, and not only is that not a classy thing to do, there are health code issues. What restaurant owner wants someone that essential to the welfare of his/her business with no ethics or a waitress who sees it and looks the other way working for him/her? Getting off my soap box now.

I used to waitress, and I saw some bad stuff sometimes, but that's just plain nasty! If I did eat there, I would probably only order food when I knew that particular chef wasn't working. That would really, completely gross me out. I would totally understand if someone didn't want to eat there after seeing that!

Does it really matter? Has anyone really the idea how many germs we swallow everyday? You've probably already breathed in hundreds of people's sneeze germs, does any more hurt?
