In the restaurant atmosphere, is it legal for an employer to tell it's chef/cook not to wear facial hair while working? Just like making waitresses put their hair up or cook's to wear hair nets.

Every place of business can set its own dress code. I've worked in restaurants where the cooks have to be clean shaven every day to places where they really don't care how they look provided they're taking proper sanitary precautions with their hair.

Absolutely. I've been in the restaurant industry for years. We don't worry about a little stubble but anything on the face that's long can end up in someones food. They actually have beard nets for this purpose. I would worry if I was at a restaurant and they didn't make the cooks wear hats or hairnets. That would be very unsanitary.

I had a friend who worked in a plastic's shop that made caps for toothpaste and other such products. The men that had facial hair were required to cover it with a hair net. Same goes for food service workers.

Yes it is legal for a business of any kind to require a neat and clean appearance. If that includes no facial hair, then either quit or shave it off.

They can/must require you to wear a cover over your facial hair...it is like a paper shower cap. That is what they do at Costco but each business uses it's discretion and I do not think it is against the law to require you to remove it. Just like they can say no piercings other than in your ears and no heavy make-up for women or visible tattoos. It's their business you are just a pee on

Yes it is legal.

They have OSHA regulations to follow, and that means keeping things sanitary, which would mean hair nets and gloves and shaving facial hair/beard nets.

they can't force someone, that person has the option of leaving that job if they don't abide by the dress code and facial hair is part of the dress code
