How is Universe un-ending ? How can something be infinite at all ??

Pls give few clues to understand it properly. Do they really mean that Universe is un-ending ? If yes, then we are talking about Religion and belief being correct. So are we saying that Religion and science are two sides of the same coin ??

The greatest question on earth. "How can something be infinite at all?" It's an abstract way of thinking. Just imagine that you get to the farthest realms of space only to find even more space.

This is a very heavy answer to deal with.
First, we must see the universe's beginning. Both theories of the universe have a paradox involved. There are two theories-
a) Big Bang.
This says that the universe was once compressed into infinitely small space, and that compressed structure had infinite curve in space and time. This is the main area of paradox.
The observation that the universe is expanding contributes to this theory, because obviously the universe had expanded from that infinitely small structure.
The questions that arise here are-
1. How can something come out of nothing?
2.How can something be infinitely small?
3. What was there outside of that compressed structure?
We must here agree that if the universe is infinite, it cannot have a centre, because every point in the universe will have the same amount of space on either side. Therefore, the big bang theory, which states that the universe starts from a centre, cannot be infinite. We can say that the universe is growing infininitely from that infinitely small structure-but the universe itself will not be infinite.
b)The steady state
This theory states that the universe was, is and will be constant. The main argument in observation for his theory is that the universe is expanding. Since this theory states that the universe has also been constant, why should there be a fluctuation?
The questions that arise here are-
1. If the universe was constant, how did it form? Everything must have a beginning, if no ending.
It is impossible for the human mind to grasp the concept of infinity. However, one can safely say, that if one follows the big bang theory, then the universe is not infinite in size-only very very huge. Also, if gravity has its way, then one day the universe will stop expanding and come back together to trigger an explosion called the big crunch, which will be the ending of the universe. That is, IF gravity is strong enough.

Ok deep question and here is a/the answer.

The universe is NOT infinate or un ending. To fully understand this theorum you need a good understanding of quantum physics. I dont particularly, but my father and brother are into Steven Hawking with huge IQ's and we have had many discussions about it. Most of which I dont understand a lot of the time. LOL

So here it is. The big bang created all matter in a fraction of a nano second. The universe is expanding expenentially and eventually it stops. Beyond the edge of the universe is nothing. Now this is the bit that is interesting. What is nothing? Think about it. There is nothing. Not space or air blackness because these are all SOMETHING. I cant get my head round it either. But its the truth.

Think on that for a bit.

Are you talking about size or age?
If it's size, then imagine the more impossible, if the universe has an end, then u should reach a solid wall, what would be after it?
Theories say that the space is somehow rounded, if you go in one direction then you return to the point you started after a veeery long trip, which can make sence, because then you can imagine the universe like the surface of the earth, u can't reach its end no matter how much you travel.
As to the age of universe, well scientists say it had a beginning, and it will have an end

I can give you two answers. The first answer is my own personal theory. The second answer is from something I learned from a science documentary on TV soon after I had created my own theory.

The First Answer:
1) Think of space as being divided into two sections. The first section is white space. White space is a space that has an unlimited and an infinite amount of material that goes on forever. (So with in white space, with there being an unlimited and an infinite amount of material that goes on forever that also means that the concept of time is irrelevant.) The second section is black space. Black space is a space that is infinitely empty forever and ever. Now two things could have happened. The first thing that could have happened is that a particle from white space had been introduce into black space and at that point the that one particle had exploded into the BIG BANG which had occurred around 13 to 15 billion years ago. The second thing that could have happened is that white space could have introduced a leakage into black space thus creating not only the BIG BANG (or a BIG LEAK) but also creating all of the particles in our universe that had followed immediately after the BIG BANG (or a BIG LEAK). At the point that any amount of white space enters into black space is the same point that we begin to measure the age of our universe.
(Keep in mind that since white space and black space are both infinite, it also means that there may be an infinite number of universes spread out all over the place at any given time.)

The Second Answer:
2) The second answer is that our universe is one of many universes that have come and gone and that have came and went. For example think of a black hole. A black hole is an object with a gravitational field so powerful that a huge region of space becomes completely engulfed into the black hole. No matter or radiation (including light) that has entered its region can ever escape it. Now the inverse and the opposite end of a black hole is where everything is funneled out. Now when this happens it can be called a white hole. A lot of scientist now believe that the BIG BANG of our universe had been created by the process of a white hole 13 to 15 billion years ago. The funneling between a black hole and a white hole is like an umbilical cord. One theory is that there are a lot of universes, and each universe is trapped inside something like a bubble, and the bubbles are connected through an umbilical cord or through a worm hole. At the point that any amount of material from a black hole exit itself out as a white hole is the same point that we begin to measure the age of our universe.

GOOD QUESTION.

yes dude! the universe is infinitely large..That's because the universe is going on expanding due to one of the biggest explosion ever i.e BIGBANG (known as BIG BANG THEORY).

Actually the whole of universe was a dwarf star, which was not stable and eventually resulted in an explosion. The explo. was so large that it has not come to a halt till today and will not for many crore years. It's like a balloon which is going on expanding .BUT this expansion will stop after 5000 cr. years after which the contraction will start, resulting in the end of the universe , AND in the mean time some other star will become dwarf and start expanding...SO no ending of the universe
I am also fascinated ab't this fact ...This is a never ending discussion....

check out CBSE Xth stnd science books.Excellent explaination.

Hmmm...until the universe stops expanding, it will be infinite to us, at least. But, expansion means that, logically, there has to be an edge somewhere.

Unless you think of the universe as being a sphere. The Earth isn't infinite, but because it is a sphere, you could walk or drive infinitely on its surface.

Stephen Hawking says that if you were inside a nutshell, you would be the master of infinite space.

Maybe the universe is a bit like an inflating balloon...and we are inside of it, trying to figure out what is going on.

If they both seek the truth they should be the same. Don't get all tied up in infinite as there is a definition as to how big it might be. E=MC^2 As a large sun collapses the distant matter will reach the velocity of light and its mass will become infinite and that creates a black hole that might be 100 light years across. That is why there is a black hole in the center of each Galaxy .

To answer this you have take it from a different point of view.

how CAN'T the universe be un-ending? has any one proved that there is no end to the universe? How can you know there is an end when there is no beggining?? Where does the universe begin?

End is when you have a start. What was before the start? an end of end of something else and so on.

So the Universe is infinitely limited and limitedly infinte

God is the only stable point, all is either going away or coming back

Was it the chicken before egg or egg before chicken. Both exist parallely

For a very anxious and curious person, getting explained from the expert is better. Read 'A Brief History Of Time' and 'The Universe In A Nutshell' by Stephen W. Hawking. It will give very you a very clear explanation of the most complicated problems of astronomy and space researc
