I'm uploading my resume' onto a job application on the web - only thing is, they don't allow me to attach it as a word document. Is there any way to "cut and paste" my resume into the text box without losing its original format from word ie. justification, allignment, spacing and colomns?

thanks so much!

A text box is really pretty limited in what it can handle. Tables and columns will be lost although you can create "text" equivalents by using spaces and/or dashes. I really recommend having both a formatted (MS Word or Adobe PDF) version and a text version (for cases like you just encountered). One reason the site wants a text version is so they can automatically process the text to automate the candidate to position matching.

Consider copying the text from your document into NotePad (not WordPad) and manually adjusting the spacing to get something that looks pretty decent. You won't be able to duplicate the formatting but you can make sure that it looks right before copying and pasting that text into the textbox.

hmmmm bit difficult to retain the formatting i would have thought since your pasting it on an open canvas if you know what i mean

what i suggest is you edit your resume to one that contains simple formatting i.e. line spacing and tabs as a minimum

if you wana have a look at how your formatted resume will look unformatted, copy it as it is and then in a new word document, in the edit menu choose paste special and then choose to paste it as unformatted text and u will see the result for yourself, it may look messy

so stick to simple lines and spacing if you can, making sure to backup the original copy before u make any changes,
