Plutonium 210 has a half life of 140 days. Suppose a sample of this substance has a mass of 300g.

a) find the mass of plutonium 210 remaining after one year.

b) How long will it take for the sample to decay to a mass of 200 mg of plutonium 210.

The basic equation for dealing with half-life decay problems is:

ln(N/No) = -0.693(t/t.5)

Where N is the amount of isotope remaining at some time, t; No is the original amount of the isotope, t is the time, and t.5 is the half life (I can't type t with a subscript of 1/2).

You should be able to just plug in the values that you have and solve for the one you don't. Be sure to convert the 1 year to 365 days.
