I had two wisdom teeth removed on Monday. The lower one was a very traumatic extraction and I got a dry socket. On wednesday I went to the dentist and they stuck some dressing in the hole. The dressing is starting to fall out. Is this normal and is it going to hurt when the dressing does come out?

I had a dry socket 2 months ago.

I can't believe the dentist didn't tell you what to do.

No it doesn't hurt when the dressing comes out... the med is absorbed from the dressing, and will numb the sight. the dentist should be the one to take it out but if it falls out on its own it should be ok.

If it starts to hurt again I would go back to the dentist and get another one put in.

Good luck. Hope This Helps

I had a tooth pulled 3 weeks ago and I had the same thing put in the socket. The main dry socket risk is in the first 5 days. They really aren't all that common. It's nothing to worry about at all. Just do salt water rinse and no commercial mouthwash for a few weeks and you'll be fine.

I had packings for 3 weeks total on 5 sockets at once. You want it to stay in longer than 2 days. it will start to hurt. don't drink from a straw and don't smoke. nothing cold either. You should see if the denist can repack it. Go the the store and buy clove oil to apply with a q tip, will help if packing falls out.

I had mine in for 7 days, they were removed, new ones added and had to wait other 7 days. It all depends on the person and the damaged to the gum when it was removed. I didn't have to stop going for check ups on the sockets until about three weeks later

the dressing will fall out, but it shouldnt be too painful, your dentist should have given you another appointment so he or she can check your progress. If you feel any tenderness around it, swelling, irritation or liquid oozing from the area, then call your dentist and get to see him/her - remember, err on the side of caution: it's better to be safe than sorry!!!

Just call your dentist or oral surgeon. Ask for his/her nurse and then ask the same question.

Every doctor has a nurse. You're more apt to get a call back or have your questions answered right away.

I believe 3 days should be enough.
No, it doesn't hurt.
