Batteries are normally in the stern or amidships. You want to keep the battery cables as short as possible to prevent voltage drop.

Generally the stern is the better area for locating a battery. It keeps the major wiring shorter and the stern is flatter, providing a good place for the battery to rest. There is also less motion and pounding from amidships back to the stern, but since this is a "rowboat", pounding may not be a problem. Be sure to secure your battery in a battery box. Depends on how you are going to load the boat. If you are going to be alone most of the time you might want the battery a bit more forward. If you will be carrying passengers, move it to the stern. I have a 12 foot gamefisher and when I am by myself I put the battery in the bow. When my wife goes fishing with me I put the battery just forward of the rear seat. I have wires run to the bow and don't have any problems with voltage loss. Keep flexible so you can meet different situations.

Contrary to the popular believe the high raising bow of a planning boat is very counterproductive because the excessive angle of attack of the hull creates additional wave resistance. You would like to keep it just above the water to cut the resistance and increase the efficiency of the motor. So load the bow. If the boat is heavy loaded and not planning then the additional resistance comes from the vortexes behind the transom. You would like to keep the transom as high as the motor shaft will allow. So load the bow. The best place for your battery is the bow. Of cause you might use the thicker cables to minimize the electrical resistance.

Depends on what you are using the battery for. Put it where you need the power. It needs to be as low as possible, and must be secured to the boat and the terminals covered.

the best location for battery is in a plastic battery box strapped to the floor at the bow........... if you are in the 14' footer alone it is always best to distribute the weight in the center of the boat and thus cause the boat to plane properly and safely.................
