Here are some of the the reasons why it has happened and is happening,
1, Habitat-they are losing it
This is because their habitat has progressively been destroyed .Waters, forests, grazing land
2. For Skin and Bones;
Many have been hunted for their skin and certain bones that are thought to have healing powers; for jewelry. shoes , purses
3.For a Compact Mass of Hair- such as;
that of the of Shahtoosh ShawlsThe Tibetan antelope, or chiru, produces a type of wool called shahtoosh. It is so fine that a shawl made from it can be pulled through an index-finger ring. Such a shawl may cost up to $16,000, making it among the most expensive in the world. But what does this mean for the antelope that wears the wool?
“One shahtoosh shawl meant at least [the] lives of five chirus,” says The Indian Express. About 20,000 chirus from the Tibetan plateau are said to be poached each year. This occurs even though the animal is supposed to be protected under various endangered species acts. This is only one example. (guess I will stick to cashmere(
4. For Sport or Direct Attack
Yes this is big business and people play plenty for the unusual hunt, game, event
5. For Food
The unusual delicacy for the Gourmet (an aquired taste)
6. Because of Pollution
poisons in their bodies more being introduced everyday-they are sick and suffering
Dirty air, global warming, polluted waters, and toxic wastes are just a few of the maladies of our very ill earth
air pollution, untreated sewage, acid rain, lack of clean water and space. chemicals and toxic waste, Industrial progress
7. Because of Ignorance.
A lack of control and order from man to save their plight
Experts are in a quandary as to what to do.
Example"--Man still has much to learn about the relationships of creatures, one to another. East African fishermen who introduced the Nile perch into Lake Victoria to build up food stocks triggered what zoologist Colin Tudge called "the greatest ecological disaster of this century." Some 200 of the lake's 300 native fish species went into oblivion. Although recent evidence blames soil erosion for upsetting the balance of species, the governments of the three countries that border the lake have now established an organization to determine which species of fish can be introduced without endangering the native ones
8 No Control or limits
Overfishing, hunting
9/ illicit trafficking of endangered species--yes it is hard for certain rattlesnakes to survive winter--get the picture?
The evidence is overwhelming that humans have been selfishly ruining the earth, which has included the destruction of much of its magnificent wildlife. .
Is this liberals fault only? I don't think so.. Realistically, no species has its own specialized team of helpers (rather Conservatives or Liberals---it just isn't there) And it is not simply a lack of manpower that compounds the problem. No matter how dedicated Conservatives and Liberals are, when faced with official corruption, greed, and indifference as well as war and even the threat of death, what hope have they of success?
In answer to your question I believe in this case your are not pointing the finger at all concern--on "how did you...let that happen?" I am concerned if you feel it is only one to blame I just don't see it. But my vote would go to ones I really believe they can make a difference.
(if there are any---sometimes I only see token gifts on this matter --or just plain out and out "Indian givers"--Indian givers who give you something and take it back at will-I don't see much virtue or honor there-----yet many do it -and justfy it.)
I am Sorry RLP, for taking so much of your space here, but this issue is close to my heart.. And I feel people should know the reasons--all of them.

"Naturally going extinct" is kind of an oxymoron, if you ask me. Yes species have been going extinct for eons, but never at the rate they are today (other than at mass extinction events).
You can't blame our current problems on anyone in particular, be it liberals or whoever your particular devil may be. Its the industrialization of mankind that's brought us to where we are.
It will have to be ALL people that bring us from the brink of destruction, though.
You may not agree with Al Gore and his documentary "An Inconvenient Truth", but you should watch it. It's very sobering, even if it were only partly true. To world is very likely at a very dangerous juncture and if all of us don't do something about it and stop pointing fingers, our children and grandchildren will have a tough time surviving on a planet that is changing very rapidly in a very dangerous way.

I have a better one for you....from a liberal/Independent here.....
Einstein said that if all the bees disappeared, the human race would only last four more years.
I refer you to the following article from the NY Times last month. If you "Google" bees you will see they are dying all over the world. There are also some studies that the use of cell phones and the electronics involved also causes the bees to "lose direction" and become disoriented. There have been huge hives found with only a few worker bees and a queen....and no production.
Honeybees, Gone With the Wind, Leave Crops and Keepers in Peril
By ALEXEI BARRIONUEVO (NYT);
Honeybees are flying off and disappearing in mystery that has flummoxed researchers and threatens production of numerous crops that rely on bee pollination; researchers call syndrome colony collapse disorder and say bees are presumably dying in fields from exhaustion or becoming disoriented and dying from cold; one study says that honeybees annually pollinate more than $14 billion worth of seeds and crops in US, mostly fruits, vegetables and nuts; investigators are exploring range of theories about disappearing bees, including viruses, fungus, poor bee nutrition, pesticides, bee stress; beekeepers earn much more renting their bees out to pollinate crops than in producing honey, and researchers are concerned that trucking colonies around country to pollinate crops could add to bees' stress and help spread viruses and mites of crops that rely on pollination

as usual... you only care when it affects you... your food... clearly...
but, you do realize that the SCIENTISTS said everything that you said... why do you believe their numbers when they say 99 percent of the world's animals that have ever existed are extinct... which would be a theory, you can't prove that... sure, some fossil records prove it to some degree, but not 99 percent...
yet don't believe in man made global warming? which is also a theory supported by most scientist?
odds are if they are wrong about one, they are about the other... and vice-versa...
and to answer the "how did you let that happen"... because most were done before man...
but that doesn't mean we should use that as an excuse to drive other species out of extinction... nature is often a delicate balance... man has learned many times that ruining that can have devistating effects... look at the mice problems in Austrailia...

Darling, if you're going to make accusations, it would be nice if you offered some specific EXAMPLES of what you consider wasted money/effort regarding a particular species...
And why the Hell are you pinning this on the liberals? Actually, I would think that a lot of people - regardless of their political leanings - would have some regard and concern for this Earth.
I'm glad you're concerned about the perch population. That's nice of you.
So, is this your "Earth Day offering?"
Did you do anything specific today to show your children a concern for the planet?

This question points out how misguided the liberals are! I wonder, if we start calling unborn babies an endangered species, would they lift a finger to help them? In their eyes animals have more rights.

This forum goes out to NeoCons. You should be more mindful of their needs.
Try asking What ever happened to 99% of the Animals that Noah put on the arc.
I believe the fossil record and the global flood evidence. Hey maybe it got real warm back then.

right wing conservatives will spend tons of money helping illegal immigrants, to keep their cheap labor force here in the US,, now that's helping "people",,,,,, problem is,, their not helping American citizens,, and they foot the bill,,,,,
this is what ALWAYS happens,,,
so do ring wing nuts want to stop all the fishermen across America now,, or should they just make fishing "legal only" in Lake Michigan,, you know catch um before the pollution and ship carrying foreign fecies kills um..... this would solve three MAJOR PROBLEMS in one, and save on resources since the "fish food" is your main concern......

where is your source, genius ? Don't fake interest by asking a question about any living thing except your own too much pampered butt.
I rather spend tons of money to save one species, before I spend a dime for killing every living thing on earth , as you obviously want !
