Okay, the reason I am asking this is that the nurses at the hospital where I am going to deliver tend to be very b*tchy. They pretty much act like you should not be there unless you are in labor, like there is no other good reason for them to have to put up with your presence.
Anyways, I am wondering, because my doctor wants me to come into the hospital here in another hour or so to check on some things with the pre-e and NST for the baby, if what I am experiencing pain wise is back labor, does that even show up on the uterine contraction monitor thing? Because that is the first thing the nurses do when you come in is put a little monitor at the top of your uterus, then roll their eyes at you if you aren't contracting. Normally I don't care about their attitude, but my temper has been really short the last couple of days, and I really don't want to go off on one of these girls! LOL

I'm not sure about the back labor, but I want to share with you what my nurses in NST told me when I was getting monitored for pre-e/gestational diabetes.

They said ANYTIME you're worried - lack of movement, possible labor, etc., to come to L&D. Someone expressed similar concerns to yours, and they said that that's their JOB, to make sure all is well, and to never let any attitude they have stop you from doing what's in the best interest of you and your unborn.

Hmmph, now I'm mad for you. By all means, if you're concerned, go in. If a nurse rolls her eyes, or in any way makes you feel bad, ask her about it. "I'm sorry, you seem irritated. Should I only come in when I'm positive I'm in labor and the contractions are five minutes apart? I don't want to inconvenience anyone." Say it very sincerely and hopefully they'll realize how rude they're being. Best of luck to you.

yes, it will show up on the monitor as if it's really back labor then it's just contractions that you are mainly feeling in your back. I know what you mean about these nurses, I had a hospital I delivered at once that was like this, it's a bad way to treat pregnant women, and I think dangerous, because it makes you not want to come in for something that could be a big deal and being seen could have made a difference.
Best of luck to you on your pending birth. I've had pre-e with 2 of my pregnancies, I hear ya sister :)

First off let say how sorry I am about how your labor nurses are treating you, I have been in L & D for 5 yrs and have never once seen any of my collegues treat a mom nastily, however I know they do exist, for that I am sorry. Second, if you are truly in labor, and the labor is in your back, the toco monitor will pick up the contractions, I advise women on here everyday, if in doubt go to the hospital and get checked out, thats why were here, it's our job. Unfortunately some of us just arent as passionate about our career paths as others. I wish you all the best, and if you get a labor nurse that you dont like? INSISIT on getting someone else!!! And I do mean INSIST!! I had too once cause I got a male RN nothing against that, but we clashed and I wasnt going to have it!!! You cant be in labor and your uterus not be contracting, if you are in back labor the toco monitor will pick up your contractions!

Best of Luck to you and yours!

I had only back labor and the monitor picked it up no problem. I did get to the hospital though when I was already dilated to 6 and 90% effaced, so I'm not sure about early labor. I was not sure I was in labor!! (contrary to what everyone says) I sat at home for 2 hours with my contractions 5 minutes apart because if it wasn't labor I had to work in the morning! My husband and I finally decided that it really couldn't be anything else and we went in. Our nurses weren't very nice either. That really sucks, it's the happiest, most exciting day of your life and the stupid nurse has to rain all over your parade. Go ahead and go off on them! It's their job, and they get paid well to do it. Good luck with your beautiful baby!!! =)

I think it will show up on the monitor, yes if it's a contraction. Maybe you're just having a lot of pressure? If I were you, I'd go ahead and go off on those nurses. It's their job to take care of you and help you. Sometimes they act like since they see women in labor every day, then we should all know exactly what's going on! Come on, the average woman has one or two babies. That's not very much experience!

Go off on them if need be!!! They have no business being bitchy. You have all you can handle with the pregnancy and baby alread. My uterus was completly resting on my backbone and the labor was painful. You will be having uterine contractions though. They will show on the monitor. Look them in the eye and say, "I am so scared that... someone will be mad at me or that my baby will not be ok, or whatever it is that you are worried about." Then maybe they can act better. Not that you should have to do that.

I had back labor with my youngest. I got to the hospital when my contractions were 5 minutes apart and my water had already broken. The monitors had no trouble picking up the contractions. I don't know if they will be as effective in early labor though. Just remember, they wouldn't have a job if it weren't for pregnant women. If a nurse offends or is rude to you, you have the right to ask for another caregiver! Don't hesitate to exercise this right. If you have more questions or need clarification, please feel free to email me!

As a healthcare provider (and I worked labor and delivery for a couple years) the pain of labor...whether felt in the back or otherwise is caused by the uterus contracting. So even with 'back labor' you could not be in labor if the uterus is not contracting (thus the reason they put the 'toco' on your uterus. This must be your first baby....cuz once you've experienced labor...you will not confuse it with anything else....if you're not sure....generally....your not in enough labor to be a the hospital. There's no mistaking active labor for the majority of women. But there are the blessed few who breeze through.

I had "back labor", too and my contractions didn't start showing up on the monitor until about the time I had to start pushing. One of the nurses kept saying "Are you sure it hurts? Are you sure you don't have to #2?" What an idiot!

I consider defying the chances is suitable, as long as it occurs at a tolerable price. in 2007, the WWE continously tossed rivals at John Cena, from Umaga to Khali, to an evil and sadistic Orton to a gigantic, muscular Bobby Lashley. Each and each and every fit, for the entire yr, it gave the impression as though Cena might ultimately get crushed via those gigantic challengers, but all he did used to be come again with three actions within the span of five mins and made all of them faucet, go out or lose to the popular FU. Now if this occurred a few instances, reasonable sufficient, however the truth that the WWE continously tossed Cena within the ring with three hundred+ pound guys or gigantic giants made it predictable that Cena used to be simply going to win cleanly it doesn't matter what, making the entire WWE appear insuperior to him. Defying the chances is suitable, a well illustration of this might be Rey Mysterio. Winning the 2006 Rumble the way in which he did used to be defying the chances, in a well means. He used to be over with the lovers, did it within the title of Eddie and went directly to win the World Championship. However, it did not emerge as ordinary. He misplaced the name a couple of months later. Also, within the Attitude Era defying the chances used to be well. There have been lots of instances wherein The Rock has bruised ribs, or Austin had a nasty neck but he'd do a roll up out of nowhere in opposition to a larger man, or a heel tag staff in a handicap fit or win. But the well factor again then is that it wasn't ordinary, it occurred at a time wherein it used to be unforeseen, and it occurred not often which gave a buzz to the lovers. Fans at the present time are unwell of the time period defying the chances, in view that it pertains to men like Cena and Batista, who it doesn't matter what they arrive head to head with move out and beat the whole thing and make themselves appear like superman. Having stated that, I'm now not a Cena hater, I'm simply announcing the WWE shuved him down our throats, for that reason the entire hate and feedback directed in the direction of him. BQ: No. Your solutions are constantly sincere, and will have to make folks consider as a substitute than get indignant. You could disagree with a few folks's feedback, that does not imply you are a "are aware of it all", you are simply expressing your perspectives. Ignore the jealous folks who can not supply as well as solutions as you'll. starred.
