Some properties in the south belong to Greek cypriots the same way as some on the north belong to Turkish cypriots. On the North side the government gave these properties to refugees from the south as a temporary home until a resolution of the problem.
The people in charge on the south of the island although gave permission to sell the greek cypriot properties to foreigners.
Even though both sides are declaring that they want a solution of the Cyprus problem, one side doesnt seem to be trying to make it easier, in fact they make it harder by bringing outsiders into this mess.

If you want to invest maybe its a good idea. But bear in mind that the property might not be owned by the person you are buying it from.

Unless you really know what you're doing. Put your money in a low risk security, CD, High Yield savings account and while your current funds earn you a return you can research everything you ever need to know about the land in northern cyprus and make a sound decision. The only thing you have control over before investing on the basis of reducing your risk is knowledge.

Of course it is! There a lot of british people who are buying houses in North Cyprus... Some people might scare you though.
Cos half of the properties on sale belongs to greek refugees but Northern Government are taking full responsibility about this issue. Turkish courts are compensating them one by one. After the refusal of annan plan by greeks everyone understood that no one is gonna get their properties. Best possibility for greeks is compensation after that. For this reason now there is a construction craze is going on North! Thats why number of british people have been increasing over years. Kyrenia is becoming like an English town...

And also: You should know you are gonna have to give back your property to North government after 99 years. Since you are not gonna be around, your grandchildren will have to give up their property rights after the 99 years of your purchase. (I dont know if you care but thats the law; they made this law in order to protect the lands. They dont want what happened South Africa, happen to Cyprus too)

I dont know the exact link but if you google "property in north cyprus" you can find lots of useful information....

Peace...
