Because you were a mistake and she realizes that she actually hates Black people now...As bad as that sounds she's probably improving from an even more detrimental state of mind, a lot of white women sleep around with Black guys because they're ashamed of their white heritage...

Sorry dude...Sometimes life is seriously F#CKED-UP.

I think you mean that she shouldn't have sleep with a black man, don't you? Well it doesn't matter what she thinks or even if she gets mad. That sounds like a serious personal problem that she needs to get over. Try not to let it affect your self esteem in the mean time. You are correct however, you are black. I commend you for claiming it. In this day and age, there are still a lot of black people who would deny that that fact and try to be something that they are not. It still bothers me when I hear a black person go out of their way to claim some other ethnic heritage when all the world can see what they really are. Kudos to you!

You are right. And if this was pre 1865 you would be considered a slave with no rights. Pending your skin color you may have been luckly enough to work inside the Masters house. Anytime between 1865-1970 you would still be considered Black and looked down upon by Many folks.

The majority of ACC and SEC universities, athough around since the 1800's, didnt start admiting Blacks & Mixed Race folks until the mid 50's some even as late as the mid 60's.

So believe it or not, If your mom considered you white most of society would still place you on the other side! Welcome to the club brother!

Well, if you're dad isn't around, that may make her think of him, and she may not want to do so. And if you play along with the "black stereotype", I can see why she may get mad. Exp: selling/doing drugs, stealing, going to jail/being locked up, having parties, lying, sneaking, bulllying, "ballin", traveling in groups of more then 2 to 3 other black people. Those are all traits of the black stereotype. People hate the stereotype, not the person. If you live up to that stereotype, people will begin to hate you too.

Because you are clearly NOT black, though you are also NOT white. You're a hybrid mix. Call yourself whatever you want, but you don't really fit into either.

Because she is under the impression we live a color blind society. She needs a sit down with Halle Berry's mom, so she can understand just what it means to have child by a black man.

My husband works for the Census Bureau, and when they ask a person what race they are, they really want to know what race you consider yourself. They want to know what YOU feel you are. If you feel you are Black, then you are. It doesn't matter what your mom thinks you are.

First, don't disrespect your mother. Second, she is probably trying to protect you from a racist society. Lastly, if you are comfortable calling yourself Black, then it should not worry you who, whether it is your mother or a stranger on the street, says that you are not.

It sounds like you hurt her feelings. Your mother's culture and race are just as much a part you as your fathers. Why can't you just call yourself bi-racial?
