This is the standard post op instructions we gave all patients for extractions, surgical or semi surgical procedures.
Place ice packs on for 15 minutes then off for 15 minutes for the "first 24 hours." Also the use of an Ibuprofen such as Advil or Motrin, an 800mg dose about 2 hours after taking your pain medications to keep from upsetting your stomach, will also help to reduce the inflammation that causes the swelling. Then tomorrow, start doing some jaw exercises by using warm compresses, two damp towels heated (as hot as possible without burning of coarse) in the microwave works great. Place these on both sides of your face and start opening and closing, stretching your mouth open a little wider each time. This helps by getting the blood flowing back into these muscles that have been stretched and strained during the procedure and helps you to regain the full function of your mouth faster. Just remember "it's ICE the FIRST 24 hours, then HEAT after that."
Follow all instructions given by your dentist and start the warm salt water rinses as many times a day as you can along with the hot compresses with the exercises and the addition of Motrin or Advil for the inflammation over the next few days. You will feel more like your self in just a few days time. Good luck!

I remember when I got my wisdom teeth pulled I don't know if it was laughing gas or what but I was out. But It was most humerus...they put me in a different room afterwords. And I woke up not knowing where I was and walked around the dentist office meanwhile they were trying to find me. Kinda a hide and seek game. I would definitely recommend something more than just some needles. Oh and do remember to follow the dentist instructions afterwards because you don't want to get any dry sockets...those can be painful. Good Luck!!

you need to put ice on it. Frozen peas in the bag work wonders. You can use a bandage or something like it to bind them to your face. Keep them on and then take them off for a while and repeat. Also your doctor may have given you a steroid to take that will help with the swelling. Hope you feel better.

It just takes a little time. Ice may help. You have no idea what they did to your jaw to get them out. You got beat up!
