Reading all the posts from supporters and protesters has me wondering. Is the US now on the brink of an internal collapse?

It appears to me that the American ideals and way of life of the 40's and 50's when we were arguably at our strongest, now starting to crumble and perhaps fall.
Most if not all other empires of the past have fallen, not from outside conflict but from within?

Your thoughts and comments.

Far from. People don't usually save and treasure their memories from the turbulant times THEY lived through. The young always believe they are unique (they are, in a way), and that theirs is the hardest decade, the toughest childhood.

It's nonsense. The world has "ended" so many times it is silly! We always have some crisis that one side or the other thinks is the end of the country. Look back at the writing that survive us from the earliest days of the country and you'll see it, and not just at times like the Civil War, or WWI and II. We seem to thrive, rising in spirals, on the freedoms and ideals that our founders gave us, though we take a dip at times.

Thank them. They made it possible. We are STILL our own government and freedoms.

What other country can share such extreme views and still thrive for so long!

We soar on such conflict. Enjoy it. They ALL have free speech. It's wonderful.

The American dream is, and has always been, to make enough money to tell everyone else to F#CK-OFF!

The "American ideals" of the 40s-50s were propaganda to leave big businesses free to pimp the public for every penny and waking moment so they could grow ever fatter on the heap of broken lives and families...where do you ALWAYS see the images of the "perfect American family?" IN COMMERCIALS AND COMMERCIALLY FUNDED TV PROGRAMS!

"Political correctness" is the new "ideal," (or "idol," propagated once again by the one the bible refers to as "the lord of the pit, Apallyon or Abaddon," that idol that will be in every home, and tell all of the people what to do. Now I'm not a christian, but this is the inevitable direction of technological progress without genetic/cultural advancement. )

WE NEED A NEW COMMON DIRECTION IF WE ARE GOING TO SURVIVE THE NEXT CENTURY AS A NATION!

I believe that the Internet can be helpful in finding this new shared value system, and I believe that we are, right now, by discussing this in a public, online forum, reaching in the right direction.

Thank you for asking an important question. I get tired of all the B.S.

It sure seems that way right now. I believe it's because the Government has done a hell of a job turning its citizens against one another. They tell people that anyone who disagrees with our governments policy is a traitor. Unfortunately, a lot people aren't capable of thinking for themselves. You see people on the left with views outside their partys' lines, but the right has scared/tricked most of it's members into believing they're anti-American if they dare question our current policies.

Example: With all of the information and evidence out supporting humans involvement in the heating of the earth(global warming), isn't it interesting that almost all(and I don't think that's a stretch by any means) Republicans believe it to be fake. How is that? Is it because they don't like Al Gore(which is irrelevant in regards to CO2 emissions)? There is so much evidence and facts that all point in the same direction, yet the right always has the same response. Usually something about Al Gore living in a mansion, which any rational person knows is irrelevant, but our govt. has made this a legitimate response to whether or not humans are responsible for the warming of the earth. Very scary that so many people can be that thick headed where they can't distinguish between there views of Al Gore and the effect of CO2 in our atmosphere. This mentality is a recipe for destruction.

I think things will change after the Dems take over the presidency and bring the troops home. Also, removing the corrupt government will be a huge boost to the country as well.

I'm not saying the Dems can't come in and mess it up like Bush, I'm just saying the Bush administration has made it an art form at destroying the moral of this country and turning citizens against each other.

Just my $0.02

We are close....the earth's poles are supposed to flip on Dec 22, 2012. That's only 5 years away. The impact of this "pole shift" may very well devastate the surface of the Planet. At the same time the people who are trying to run the world will probably try and eliminate 5 billion people and install a NWO. Our Sun's Solar activity and pole shift may bombard the earth with enough radiation to wipe the slate clean. It's hard to say exactly...but I do feel a great disturbance in the force....coming to a theater near you!

Not even close. This portion of Y!A is where all of the attack-hacks come to rumble and throw a bit of mud. Actually, they represent less than 5% of the total US population. They just all come on here - the miracle of the Internet.

To be concerned about the US staying together, we should be concerned about the "Balkinazation" (sp) of America.

Yes I also believe we are in trouble, my birth date was in 1934 and I witnessed WW2 as a child but I remember it well and all that has occurred since, morals and focus on family life has deteriorated drastically over time, our young people are not trying very hard to be responsible citizens, that we need for leaders of tomorrow. I believe this is a direct reflection on their up bringing, and their lack of understanding of the world situation.
I know I will get a lot of flack on this one but it is the truth.

The USA is much, much stronger that that. Not just the people, but the laws and principals this country was built on. And we keep improving, learning, evolving, and admitting and correcting mistakes from our past.

We'll have a real civil war where those with values will eventually slaughter those without. Then we'll start again.
