Why do you think it is called the White House?

At one time the President's house was pink but after the fire set by the British in the War of 1812 they found it cheaper and easier to keep the house white and so it remained a white house. It wasn't until into the 20th Century that it was called the White House. Before that it was the presidential mansion, president's house, or executive mansion. No particular name was assigned to it. President Theodore Roosevelt made it official and ever since the presidential palace has been referred to as the White House.
