I want to spend a few days in Chicago in late May. All of the hotels that I have found cost more than $250 a night. Are there any hotels, not so far from things that I can get reasonably?

for downtown use priceline.com or even hotels.com (if you book early enough you can get pretty good deals there)
for the best reviews I check tripadvisor.com

I would try using Farechase.yahoo.com, it looks at a lot of different online sites. For example, I did a search for Memorial Day weekend (5/25 - 5/28) and found the Swiss Hotel and the W Chicago Lakeshore for about $200. I also saw the Hyatt Regency at McCormick Place for $159.

I would also try using Hotwire.com.

It all depends on where you stay & how particular you are.
The Inn at Lincoln Park is a cheap hotel , though Ive never stayed there. & Days inn at Lincoln Park as well.
I have stayed at the chinatown sro, which is cheap, but a lil strange, Ive stayed at lakeside motel, which is sorta crappy, but close to good food and the aragon ballroom, Ive also stayed at the cass hotel, I thought it was decent.
If you are looking for something cheap in chicago, expect it to be small & not very fancy.
All the hotels I mentioned above are about 100 bucks or cheaper.
Good Luck!

Well...I'm visiting Chicago the last week of April and the hotel I booked was $85....since I really didn't plan on staying in my room much It just wouldn't make sense to pay 100 or more. But www.orbitz.com have great deals...you should be able to find you something.

Priceline it! Thats how we do Chicago, for a hotel near everything. We spend $120 on a room thats usually that. However I forget if thats a big weekend for something, like a jazz or blues fest, that could catch you. But still try priceline.
