Is there such a thing as shared national identity in Canada?

Sadly, what gr8t says is too true. Rather than taking extreme pride in all that Canada is, the beautiful nature, all the natural resources, being a peace loving people, many Canadians instead just take pride in holding their own supposed superiority over Americans because of who they presume Americans to be. Patriotism in Canada tend to be limited to the dislike of all things American.

As one of the majority of peace loving, nature loving Americans, I don't understand the animosity. Yes, the U.S. has done some terrible things ... but most individual Americans don't condone those things, past or present.

What I have seen living in various parts of Canada, is that the true Canadian National Identity is a hardy, caring, polite people who thrive on the multi-culturism that IS Canada, and have so very much to be proud of their nation for ... not because it "isn't American" .. but because it 'is Canadian".

No, the true test is that we do not need to strive for an encompassing identity to be the best place to live..

Yes, it comes down to declaring that we are everything that the Americans are not.

yes...pet beavers, igloo's, flannel shirts, the mullet, tom green,
canadians are also fond of sewing AMERICAN flags on their backpacks when they travel
