Is 13 too young to get a bellie peircing?

Acctualy I am a mother and my daughter came home talking about she wants her bellie peirced. I told her it was WAY to young but you know how kids get. Fyi i say bellie for short.

I don't think so..I am 14 and I have my bellie button peirced...I live under a very strict house hold and EVERYONE knows I am a good girl..I haven't even had my first kiss..I think that as long as its not to be SEXY its just for fun..Its fine..No..Don't show it off to everyone..That would seem sleezy..No one really even knows I have one inless they have seen me swim or I have to wear a crop top on the dance team at school..But i am very religiouse and everyone calls me a bible hugger and I have a belly button ring..I think it is fine.

legally, yes. most places won't do it without your parents permission if you're under the age of 18 and those that will, are typically kind of shady anyways.

13 is too young to get the piercing anyways. a belly ring is a sign of youthful sexuality and 13 year olds don't typically and really shouldn't be delving into their sexuality.

also, getting a belly ring is not cheap, if you can't pay for it and get it on your own (without parental consent), you shouldn't do it to begin with.

FYI- "bellie" is not "short" for BELLY....it's actually an additional letter.

Yes please refrain from growing up so fast. I know its hard in these times of MTV, my space and all the celebrities.. stay young while you can. When you get older you will wish you were younger again. You should wait until your junior or senior year of high school. Ask your parents what they think about the proper age for that. Its a very pretty seductive piece of body jewelery and you don't need to tempt the perverts any more of the world!

As a parent myself I would agree 13 is too young. Piercings need to be cleaned and taken care of appropriately.

well...it would make them look 'cool' to their school friends but as a mum and a piercer i would say wait until their at least 15 or 16 that way it's most likely to stay rather than the skin regect it and come out...(as you get older your skin stretches and if you got a piercing it might become shallow and come out if you get it at such a young age...if you're older your skin slows down on growing in that area so it'll most likely stay in.) your decision but if you wouldn't have done it at that age...don't let the 21st centuray crap change your dec. it can be harmful at too young of an age.

I think that she should wait. 16 and older would be the best age. Or better yet, the place where she would like to do it ususally has some age restrictions, where a parent must sign a consent form.

Tell her that for her 15th birthday you will take her to get one done. I wanted mine starting at the age of 11 and my mom told me that she would take me for my 15th b-day. When I turned 15 I still wanted it and we went down to the shop together. This way it is special and she has plenty of time to think about whether or not she really wants it. It has been eight years since I got mine (it is now out), but I still think my mom is cool for letting me do it and for supporting my teenage desires.
