"YouTube is pursuing advertising as its business model"
From -

Right now, there is not much advertising on youtube (I think its a single banner across the top of the page) - I belive they are currently just building a community whilst they explore advertising possibilities.

Youtube gets their money from google, now. The goal is for youtube to generate revenue with advertising, although it's not working right now. I once heard a very smart CEO say, "google bought youtube for over a billion dollars last year and has yet learned how to monetize it." In essence, they aren't making much money for google right now at all. In fact, with pending lawsuits, they may be losing money.

Advertising.

Like any other site.

Geez, how the hell will it be donations? It's owned by Google, research before you say something.
