Complicated answer.

In spanish, the letter J sounds like the letter H in english.

Also, in spanish, two L's together (LL) sound like a cross between a Y and a J in english, so often times, they use this letter (LL) to make a J sound in english, and it comes out sounding like an english Y. It is the closest sound to a J that they have in their language, so they use this y/j-ish sound to sound like a J when speaking english.

When I was learning spanish in school, our teacher was from mexico, and he always had trouble trying to make a proper "j" sound in english. It always sounded like a y to us. Just the same way as it was hard for us to roll our r's in spanish. It's not a sound they use much in their language, just like the rolling r's is not a sound we use much in english.

That's why when I am trying to explain to a spanish speaking person how to make the "j" sound in english, instead of using the "y" english sound, I use "ch" it's a tad bit closer to a proper sounding english "j" than the spanish "LL" y/j-ish sound, and the "ch" sound is a known sound in their language unlike the "J"...

For the same reason that Germans can't either. The letter J isn't pronounced that way in their native language.

it is a portuguese word...

mulher

it looks easy enough...most americans cannot pronounce it as it SHOULD be pronounced..

for the same reason that you can't pronounce the phonetics of a foreign language...neither can they unless they practice...

what kind of answer do you expect?! So you know, many Americans have horrible pronunciation when it comes to other languages. It's normal for people not to be able to speak perfectly in a tongue foriegn to them!

They pronounce it perfectly in Spanish where the "j" sounds like in "h" in English.

So let's hear you speak Spanish perfectly, Whitey Boy.

It is not a letter that is ennunciated in Spanish as it is in English. It is a habit and what they are used to. I know it sounds odd, but what is the big deal, we know what they mean.

It's just like when white people try to say certain curse words with slang, like mufuc*a. It sounds wierd when white people say it.

It really doesn't matter. As long as we can all come together and say "racist" we'll be okay.
