Is this a homework question? Hm mm. To me, and I haven't read the book for years, it showed how we as a society are no better than these kids trapped on an island. We are all kids trapped on an island and we behave as such.

It shows how animalistic people actually are just beneath the surface and what better way to illustrate this than with something as innocent as these children.

I've never read the "notes" on this story. If you get stuck I would start at the library or bookstore and check these out.

BTW, please read the book and try to figure these questions out for yourself. It's a really cool book and you'll never forget parts of it. If you just work off of what someone tells you here you lose the lesson... and you might as well move to Vegas and become a working girl, because if you can't think for yourself what good are you?

If you've read the book, surely you noticed how the children form societies without the influence of external forces. The characters represent man's capacities in their rawest, purest form.

Honestly, this isn't difficult. What kind of character does Jack become? Ralph? Piggy? Simon? The answers are there; it's easy.

You are cheating yourself out of reading a great story...as cool and true today as the day it was written. READ IT! You will like it. I'll give you a hint: Young guys are marooned on an island...and the "society" they create shows what people can (or have) become...aren't you just a little curious?
