LOL, i think it's funny, but last week in the mall a white woman was clutching her little girl, looking the opposite direction of me, and speeding up pace when I walked past them. This is not the first time either.

Because they think you're gonna rape their little girl, steal their purses, and shoot up all the convenience stores!!!

Lol...

All jokes aside, it's because there are so many negative stereotypes attached to black men, and silly people tend to believe them.

The majority of Black people in America are working class. The majority of White people in America are middle class. Working classes have always made the middle classes nervous. Add to this the fact that Black Americans are usually portrayed in American media in the context of gangsta rappers/criminals/drug dealers etc... Finally, America is a very racially segregated country - White ad Black Americans most often will have few friends of the other race.

Therefore we usually have:
A nervous middle classed White person

+

Scared of this montster they see on the television everyday

+

With no Black friends from whom she would be able to see that the Black-media-monster that she is sacred of is actually very rare.

There may be a number of reasons for this. The white person may have heard bad things about you or about your culture. I am assuming that you are non-white to ask such a question. It may be that white people are a little paranoid about those of different colours - unfortunately, this happens all too often. QUESTION: Is it possible that you have had bad dealings with white people and so think that they are afraid of you?

I had a friend who felt that way too!!! Eventually we stopped hangen out cause I just didn't see what he was seeing so it became akward after a while. Everytime we hung out together he thought people were judging us, it was really weird. But whatever I guess everyone feels like people are looking at them funny at some time or another!!!

She probably thought you were HOT & had to run home to change her pant*es!!!

Because some people would rather believe idiot, stereotypes, then actually get to know people of other races. Because maybe they just might find out everything they have been believing is actually not true. The next time it happens just tell that loser, you are not even thinking about their sorry a. s.s. And move on.

Maybe she's from another country that has very few if any black people, so she's not use to seeing any one of color. It could be she's heard nothing but negative and fearful talk about black nationality. Once she sees that black is no different than white, she will lighten up. You say this is not the first time this has happened to you, So.... are you huge, muscular, and look like a bully? If that's the case, could be these people react to any one of any color who is scary looking.

I'm sure this is attention seeking and/or boredom question, but I'll entertain it. I'm guessing that if any white people are acting scared of you in particular, as opposed to any person they meet, it is because they are spineless and pay too much attention to the untrue stereotype that minorities (blacks in particular) are dangerously tough. I've done plenty of pointless fighting, especially in my youth. Black, white, orange, or blue, people are people. I've had experiences with certain races starting more problems with me, but as for how dangerous they are, it is totally unpredictable. I had the **** eat out of me by a quiet white guy that was about 2/3 my size. He turned out to be an Olympic- hopefull wrestler. He's now a dear friend.

blessed be the day when racial stereotypes; both good and bad, are erased from our society.

predjudice is a sad, sad thing when we make assumptions of the character of others by nothing other than the color of their skin.

the best thing i can tell you to remind yourself is that shes only worried for the safety of her daughter, whom she loves, and probably intends no hatred or anything towards you.

just shrug it off with a smile and continue life being the good person that you are.

Fear of the unknown. all she knows is what media has told her. and since all the news in this world that is worth reporting is bad news that is all she sees. on the eleven o'clock news some generalized description of a black man committing a crime. so its not her fault you just fit the description of every black person who has ever been on the news.

She didn't see "you", she saw the stereotype of you and that is why she was scared of you. It is annoying to deal with stuff like that though, same thing happens to me sometimes.
