It is perfectly natural to grieve. Hopefully you learned NOT to give gerbils (or any other animal for that matter), grilled cheese sandwiches...
When you feel you are ready, go get another pet...it doesn't have to be a gerbil, but something you can interact with and you can learn to love.

i'm so sorry. there's nothing much you can do, but just think of the good times and talk about your feelings. what was ur gerbil's name? write poems about your special relationship and maybe songs. do u have pics? that's good to remember him by. i hope you feel better.

you can get another one. i wouldn't feed it people food though, as you can see - it's not good for them. or you can upgrade to a larger animal like a guinee (sp) pig or something like that. i went from a fish to a parakeet to a cocketiel to a computer.
